I've picked up a second hand petrol tank
only it's been sitting around for 10 years
and it's full of sticky goo and bits of rust type bits,
i've been told to put some parrafin and pea shingle
and shake it

any other ideas ?

That's what I'd do, and then treat the tank with petseal, available from Frost restorations, which will stop it deterating further.

Never tried it but how about dropping in a magnet as well with the gravel to pick up all the little flaky bits??

I thought rust flakes were non-magnetic:confused:

Once the tank is dry on the inside, try hoovering the bits out? You could bodge a thinner bore (flexible?) tube on the end of the hoover hose to reach recesses etc? How about the filler spout from a fuel can?

I've hoovered the fumes from tanks in the past prior to welding them:D Mind you, I was single thenm not sure I'd get away with it now:rolleyes:
