Crappy Autocom boom mic!

So, how do I solve the problem of the poor headsets that come with Autocom kit?!

Ideally, I'd like something more like the Nolan or even the Starcom system. After one season's use my autocom mic looks mangled and is difficult to position. It has also been difficult to secure inside the helmet lining.

As someone who knows very little about electricery how easy would it be to fit an autocom 7 pin plug to another manufacterer's headset?
 
I think there is an Autocom headset for open face / flip lids, that looks like one designed for a full face lid.
 
Put a piece of strong tape over the boom and chinpiece to hold it in place.

The Autocom electric microphone is tuned to the Autcom main units noise cancelling circuitry. I do not think it would be a good idea to use another manufacturers headset.
