Ok I think it wise I buy some crash bars, but I'm no liking the price of Toratech or ALTRider versions. Being on a tight budget I'm looking at some of the more budget versions around the £130 -£150 bracket. Any recommendations? I presume I'm better off with cheap(ish) crash bars over some valve cover guard?

If you don't do a deal with stick I have some BMW engine bars for a 2013 LC for sale. Pm me if you're interested.

Be careful. You get what you pay for. The Touratech stuff is overpriced IHMO. The Altrider stuff is if superb design / quality and worth the money. Putting cheapo crash bars on is a bit self defeating.

thank you all. I'll be intouch. Much apprecaited
Update: PM sent to Stick

Don't forget if they are the OEM BMW part, the 2013 bars are different to the bars for the 2014 bike. Don't what the difference is though...or why.

If you believe you 'get what you pay for' how can they be 'overpriced'?.

crash bars

Dropped my bike 1200GS TE last week in the alps, bike was stationary but my foot slipped. The bike only suffered from a tiny scratch on the BM engine bars and a minor scratch on the hand guard. I only had a top box and used a BMW roll bag on the passenger seat which stuck out 4 inches either side saving any damage to the rear. do not SKIMP on protection as the 1st thought in my mind was mirrors, indicators or even screen could have been damaged. You would not know on 1st glance that my bike was lying at 90 degrees on the tarmac!

For info, 7 other bikes were dropped with levers, mirrors, and panniers damaged.

I have the Touratech crash bars and are very happy with them. You can rest your legs on them, and they really works. I managed to loose mine with luggage and they didn`t even get a scratch.

2013 engine bars

Engine mounting points changed. 2014 bikes onwards so 2013 bars won't fit.

YES and NO .

BMW genuine engine bars for a 2013 will not fit a 2014 bike.

TOURATECH engine bars still fit all years regardless if you brought them for your 2013 bike they will fit your 2014 .

I have an umarked Touratech set that came off my 2013LC that went after 1028 miles. I am open to sensible offers.,

My dealer must be a magician , the 2013 bars (June bike ) was fitted to the 2014 March bike . Bars now sold , I have the BMW engine rocker covers now.

Only main bars

Sorry, I only have the main engine bars. Umarked and as new. As I say open to sensible offers.
