Creaking "backend"

Came back from a ride Saturday & noticed a fairly loud creaking noise from the suspension (I thought) when I got on the bike without helmet to put her away - couldn't hear it whist riding. Thought ah well was going to get the Ohlins serviced anyway so took em off today & replaced with O/E Showas.Everything well greased up ( ) creaking still there .

On closer examination the creaking is actually from where the bevel box pivots on shaft drive - you can actually feel it if you put your hand on the drive housing - any ideas??

Is it safe to ride - to the dealers that is as it's still under warranty - only 16k miles - never had this issue with previous GSs' with double this mileage

Safe to ride, just bloody noisy - i've known people carry on for quite a while until sorting it out.

Water ingress (apparently) has caused the demise of the bearings, u/j's & driveshaft. There are apparently no driveshafts in the UK so one has to be sourced from Germany - in view of Christmas / New Year unless I'm very lucky looks like I'm going to be bikeless over the hols .

Apparently these problems with water ingresss have increases due to the rubber boot only being secures by cable ties nowadays rather than th Jubilee type clips that were previously used - forders (even shallow forders like me - about three in 18 months) or pressure washer users (not like me) beware

As posted by me well over a year ago - hence on my 1150 i have two proper securing clips instead of the cable ties. Which means i unscrew once a month and check if any water has got in.

And if water has got in?

What then, let it drain out (obviously) then spray with something like WD40 - Advice appreciated.

Happened to me

Steptoe pointed mine out to me offroading. 1 week later, BMW had replaced pivot bearing, final drive and the suspension just in case. I wonder how that bike is these days......still miss it!
