My mates 1150 has a creaking noise comming from the rear drive. It sounds like its comming from the joint/ gaitor area! We think it might be the rear drive spline making the noise, as it is intermitant, when you compress the suspension. Could it be that the splines are dry and need greasing. The milage 23300 miles. Their is no noise when the wheel is turning, just when the drive housing is moving in conjuntion with the swing arm.

What do you guys think and is it easy to grease the splines?

Could it be your knees? Try to keep your legs straight when looking for the noise and that'll tell you if it's knees:D

You have to undo the two bolts on the drive shaft housing. Now they are very tight as in put some heat on them to get the loctite to move. They are torqued at around 150nm so that should give you an idea how tight they are.

Once you have the bevel drive off and the shaft out it is easy to grease them but to get the bloody shaft over the splines again is not always straight forward to align them. Sometimes they literally slip in other times you swear and curse for a vey long time.

Not an extremely hard job just very time consuming if you have not done it before. I would also suggest checking the shock first before stripping off the bevel box. The bottom bolt could be dry and maybe needs a touch of grease.

On of the splines is a double this is the key.

Thanks everybody for your sugestions.

could be your paralever pivot bearings creaking .

Steptoe, what would be your sugestion on a fix for the above?

Cheers

creaking

I pulled mine apart at 20k and it still had plenty of grease on it,but I have had a bit play in my pivot bearings which I just nipped up a little that was 5k ago and no trouble since. But you have got something gone dry,so it has got come apart for inspection.Be sure you heat the pins up to sizzling hot to melt the very strong loctite bmw use on them, otherwise if there is a hard part of loctite that has not been melted it could and will screw up your pivot pin threads and then you will be looking for a new swingarm housing, also make 110% sure you have the shaft exactly has it came off, because the rear UJ has to mirror the front UJ and you can't see the front UJ,you will have to mark it with something a little dot of white paint or simalar. It sounds a bit difficult, but really is an easy job.Andy
