1150 GSA, desperately in need of a service, (gone 10,000 mile and booked for in for early June :blast), is making an awful creaking noise from the rear suspension.

I can't isolate where the noise is coming from, but it sounds like the spring or where the swing arm bolts on.

Bike behaves impecably as always, no handling issues, even loaded with daughter or with the bank holiday food. :)

Question is. Should I keep using the bike for the next few weeks or leave her in the garage, as I have missed lubricating  something vital?

Any thoughts.

Thanks

Paralever bearings get my vote too (check them as Aidan says).

If they're too far gone adjustment probably won't help (and can knacker the pivot pinion by locking the bearing solid and causing it to spin on the pinion thus wearing it away).

Not a hard job to change them if needs be - about £30 a set for the bearings and a couple of hours taking your time. Or a simple bread and butter job for someone like Steptoe.

Just had it checked over at BVM in Stroud. Looks like it is the taper bearings in the final drive.:comfort

Will just need to go gently for the next week or two, 'til the service.

This was initially my thread.

This sounds exactly the same problem I still have but as explained in the thread, I am going to live with it. The noise must be coming from the rear shock as we disconnected it from the swing arm and moved the arm up and down and the noise could not be heard. No leakage from the shock and the bike move up and down fine apart from the noise ??

Bike goes in for a big old service on the 11th of June. Will let you know if it fixes the noise.

If not I'll resort to a butt plug!?!
