Hi Chap ive got a creak coming from my drive shaft
the joint bit where the wheel bolts on (very technical wording)

Any ideas?

Just thinking out loud... When did you last check/change the oil in the final drive ? Might be worth looking ? If you undo the big 'jubilee' clips that hold on the concertined rubber flange - is it dry and clean in there or have you got oil sloshing around in there ? If you have oil in there then the seal is leaking in which case you need to get that fixed sharpish and get some new oil into the final drive.
Just my pennies worth - possibly a load of bollix but it's where I'd start.

If there is oil in the drive shaft housing that should sort out the creaking :)

Check bevel drive oil, alternatively the pivot bolts could be running dry without grease(not very good) and there is also the rear shock that creaks on mine from time to time. Check anything that there is possible movement on.

Ouch, that sounds painfull (to the wallet at least).

Mine did that and SPC replaced the paralever bearing - only £225 to you sir :yikes

To test for this, get someone to touch the bolt the bearing is fitted to (on outside of driveshaft near the final drive) while you bounce the bike up and down - you will probably "feel" the bearing creak.

There will also be play in the rear while at 3 and 9 o'clock, with none at 12 and 6.

if its paralever bearings, they can be adjusted, also take the pivot pins out every now and again, and repack them with Marine grease .

Although if thery are creaking the are probably already croaked.

The bearings themselves are only £29 (but unique to BMW  ), it was the 3 hours labour that stings - it's the 160NM torque setting, loctite and thin nut that put me off doing it myself, perhaps Steptoe will offer to do it cheaper for you

You have been robbed dude, 3 hours taking the piss to do that job big time. It should not take more than 30 minutes even if you slow.

With all the practice you have had, I'm not surprised it only takes you 30 minutes!!:D

Mine went 4 weeks ago. Took the bevel box off myself and took it down to Steptoe. Cost of the bearing and seals was £45, labour £30. Total cost of £75. I would imagine if Steptoe did the whole job it would come in about £100 less than SPC charged.

Yes Bob, I know that now, but would Steptoe have lent me his bike to hoon around the Hampshire lanes while he worked on my bike  (knowing my luck, he would have sent me out on Hercules!! :D )

It's already been put down to experience  Meanwhile, back on subject, have you got yours fixed yet Stevie?

Stevie,

definitely the paralever bearings. Mine was doing the same about a month ago. Get it checked out quickly by your dealer, as you don't want to leave it as it will just go pear-shaped!

Creaking n shit

Thanx chaps
Ive got i booked in for next week
The mechanic recons it will be around the two hundred
quid mark. I hop it does the trick.
