My pal picked up his new 1290 super duke last week so we went for a spank round lincolnshire.

now his old 990 sd couldn't really live with the uber machine that is the XR but by christ the 1290 is a quick bike !
I had to be in the right gear at the right revs to stand a chance of keeping with it when the throttle got twisted and he is still running the thing in.

Build quality looks to be superb

it is very very nice and if i could have another bike as well as the XR ..........

The GT should be interesting. Once the fuss dies down, any bugs are ironed out, and there's enough stock around for dealers to do deals, I'll take a look.

Later in the year it'll ship with a quick shifter...early bikes wont have this.
Such an impressive bike...apparently it's comfortable, has decent wind protection and standard panniers, the GT beats the BMW by quite a margin.

Ktm score low on dealer backup/experience the 2 we have, have been built on enduro sales/servicing so rd bikes are a different ball game and I get the feeling there really not set up for this type of bike, a bit like a fish out of water. You cannot knock the BMW dealer back up and the bm recovery will never be matched for what they offer.

He has the full titanium Akra race system on it and yes it does sound very nice ( you can certainly hear it coming to the meet point)
Nicer is a bit subjective as the XR on a goodchat sounds lovely to me. not the deep rumble of the KTM but a nice howl

Doesn't need a quick shifter as once it is moving it has so much grunt gear changes are not required much

Apparently Honda are planning to release an Africa Twin 'RS' version with 180hp, gear assist, steer assist, brake assist, accelerate assist, lean assist, fuel fill up assist. It's alleged to have a 400 mile range, weighs 120kg, has enough room to carry two pillions with panniers and luggage, comes standard with a fully adjustable short, tall, sport, touring screen. It has Dakar inspired off road suspension which can be switched to 'Nurburgring' for Sunday mornings down the local A roads. It even comes with an integrated ACF50 misting device to ensure no corrosion occurs............ I bet it's rubbish

It's shaft and chain drive .... on BOTH wheels, even the (Included in the comprehensive tool kit) puncture repair kit is shaft driven
