Hi All, I am slowly getting my bike to how I want it. Only bought it in Sept last year so it is work in progress :) Having spent about an hour on the search facility, confusing myself and not even finding the answer, I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any unused connectors on the 2008 R1200gs to run a couple of 10w cree spotlights off? I was going to connect them to the back of the aux socket under the seat but apparently that conjures up all sorts of problems on it's own :( I am mounting them down on the engine bars and would like them on permanently to use as running light as they have very little draw, and would like to keep the wiring clutter to a minimum so was hoping to get away without a relay etc so if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks all,
Steve

Am also interested in Cree spots - but on a different bike - seems to be radically different prices between ebayers and bike shops, mind sharing what you bought and from where?

TIA

watch out buying cheap one.....
they come with 3 modes
low...strobe...high.....pain in the arse....

Bought some Durite cree spotlights. Nice and small and only 10w each. Got em off Ebay. Bought to be seen with as opposed to seeing with :) Good reliable brand and nicely made :)

ive bought a couple of cree lights off ebay and one was doable but the other set wasn't the same...didn't have the u2 chip.

Dont forget Les Wassel on this site HID 50. Whilst he may not compete with Ebay his gear is excellent and is straightforward to fit and use.

I have Les Wassall HIDs in both headlights. They really are very good. The issue is BMW not allowing enough angular separation between dip and main beams.
I have a pair of narrow angle spots wired to work only with main beam. They are the three mode type but it's an easy fix.
I added some 70mm angel rings. But the same lamps are available complete with angel eyes. Wire these with dip beam for the three lamp triangle
The CREEs have been on for at least 12 months. The anodising has faded and salt has fetched the chrome plate off the bezel rings but for the price I'm not complaining.

Here u go mate.
I can't recommend them or comment on them yet cos I haven't got them fitted yet. Work in progress ;)

I have a pair that look the same as those but unbranded from ebay, less than 20 quid to see how i liked them and just in the process of getting things wired up item number 331903321625,can't post a like via mobile.
Had them wired to the battery and they seemed ok but bumpy road test who knows.

I have one of Les's Hid kits in the dip beam light and very impressed with it!

Can u let me know how u wire them up mate? I tried a 20w bulb on the aux socket tonight (same wattage cos still waiting for my lamps to turn up) and it lights up ok but the canbus holds onto it and didn't shut it down for at least 5 mins so onto plan b which will probably be a relay with a feed from the aux socket as the trigger :)

Yes I have one of his Hid kits. Very nice. I also feel a main beam kit coming on soon ;)

I found a halogen main beam was almost useless above the HID dip beam so went HID in both. The main beam is hugely better even with the few seconds warm up time.
The long range LEDs fill in where the lamp design prevents the main beam being properly aimed. I have the left LED set higher than the right as this is more useful on dual carriageways. I can run main beam for longer on RH bends without blinding incoming drivers.

Got my little spots on Bendy toy so one of my next jobs after getting a GoPro mount made up is the Hid kit for the main beam and then that is the lighting sorted..... Unless I decide on long range spots as well!

If you don't like the hi/lo/strobe function (I think it's crap) you can chop out the responsible chip.
