Cross Bones

I tried a R King last year but found the riding position wasnt so great - isnt it the same as a Glide?

I do like the look of the Street but would really like the pillion comfort for the GF as we have longer Euro tours planned. We still wanna keep the GS for Highland tours which are often in crap weather but fancy the full thing over longer trips - hence cruise control. I've never tried c/control but would think it's be excellent for autoroutes etc.

Maybe a Classic is sufficient then? :nenau

I prefer the Classic looks in vivid black and the appearance of the clocks and the pannier rails :drool

this was us having a hoot :)

Same tank, frame and footboards. Different saddle and bars. Not that different though and the bars are relatively easy to change as long as you don't want to go for apes or beech bars.

Again you can alter the saddle (many people have a touring one for holidays and keep the original for posing around town ;)

You can fit the 'detachables' rack and back rest. There are some huge back rests you can fit and you can get more in a 90ltr roll bag than in a Tourpack.

You can buy an aftermarket batwing fairing for a Road King but you can't make an Electra Glide look cool without a fairing unless you spend a lot of money

gulp - im soo tempted :drool

Cross bones

I have an 08 pewter crossbones and i would say it handles perfectly i bought it after dumping my 07 Gsa ( after it fell to bits ) i think the ride is perfect considering the state of our roads it has an old school look with the springer front end the fat tires sprung saddle and soft tail it couldnt be better theres bags of low rpm torque i seem to average 40 to 45 mpg with no reliability issues at all and resale prices couldnt be better , yes v rods handle better than softails dont handle as well as Dynas but they are all pretty good go with your crossbones you wont regret it!

Trev

I bought an '05 FLHTCUi (Ultra Classic in other words) on ebay in December 2007. Great price and good nick.

I have had a fantastic time with it; it is a laugh to ride, has been ultra (!) reliable (mind you, so has been my GS1150 - to the Red Sea and back and only had to pump a tyre and top up the oil!).

The front brakes are only OKish but the tip is use lots of back brake. I have used it to commute to Central London for a few weeks, and rode down to Le Mans 24hrs race. Just crank up the music, switch on the cruise control, and you are there. Also a few weekend trips to France where it is great at pootling down country lanes.

Once you are used to it, it is surprisingly adept.

Spray mine with ACF 50 each winter and in spring it polishes up nicely. None of the vaunted rust issues so far (fingers crossed).

Considered upgrading to a newer Ultra but could not afford the price step up. While the '2010 reportedly does not fry your nuts like the '05, i have not found it a big deal.

PM me if you need more. My recommendation...go for a second hand Ultra...and buy in winter.

regards

Simon

Ultra comes with shaving mirror!
