would love to know the pros and cons of this device,if anyone can enlighten me

Pro: Fantastic when you're cruising on a motorway and get a numb throttle hand

Con: check out the torx bit you need to remove the bar end weight to fit it!

A very worthwhile purchase in my book.

Anyway, quick trial on the M4 to London on Monday and it works well and will be a great addition for the long hauls through Europe in the summer

I’ve had one on my bike now for couple of years and I very seldom use it. The only time I have found it beneficial is when I am covering a lot of miles and I wish to let my right hand rest, of course it’s only really safe on the motorways. It can be fiddly to engage but should you need it off quickly that isn’t a problem so long as you don’t go mad when tightening it up. It’s a luxury I would say and one I could live without.

Got mine on ebay and paid something like £45

Bit hard to use on the move. I might be doing it wrong though? Once on there good. Till you panic and try to turn it off.

+1 great bit of kit works well

+2.......But the M ways are so crowded these days you hardly get a chance to use it for more than a short time.

Very handy when balancing the throttle bodies at 4k rpm. Tho' a jammed rag would also do that and cheaper.

The Jaws kit for me at under £30....very good on those empty French autoroutes.

I tried one of these knurled knob type friction cruise control thingys last year cos it seemed like a great idea.

It is very well made from aluminium alloy and it looked as though it would be an ideal accessory BUT I found it almost useless in practice and fiddly to operate.

Main problem though is that is doesn't have the same mass as the bar end weight that it replaces and this results in more vibration on the right hand grip.

I use mine but mainly when riding alone as it doesnt compensate when going up or down hill and fellow riders think you're messing about. Otherwise can be useful on foreign motorways.

guys thanks for the replies,the reason I was looking at them was because i have carpal tunnel,and thought it would give me enough time to take the hand off the bars and give the hand a good shake to get life back into the right hand again.Went to the doctors to day again,and still cant reduce the 2 year waiting list for the op.She said take paracemol until the op comes up.

I contacted bmw uk to try and see if the cruise control on the 12rt se could be adapted to the 1200gs,still waiting for a reply.Need to try and get something as the distance travelled before numb hand is 12 miles.Looks like it could be a lot of trips to the shops for the next 2 years.


If anyone knows anything about fitting or a company who fits an on-off button for cruise control, then my ears are all open

Does anybody know what the inside diameter is of the 1200GS handlebars at the bar end?

I am wondering if it is the same as the HP2 handlebars which is around 13 or 14mm diameter

It must be larger as the bar end weight - (not inside diameter) is 22mm
You'll need a T55 to undo-

Always glad to help others Jinky
I had a 'smooth' wheel cruise control before and found it more difficult to 'lock' on the go- This knobbly one works much easier.
The throttle rocker is also a dream - I adjust its position 'skywards' before entering motorways so that when I reach crusing speed, my wrist is horizontal- and the natural weight holds the throttle where I want it.
Don't do that in town! it caught me out once- and once was enough!

Have you tried the bar riser kit, it changes the angle and solved my numb hand problem

bloody hated them, anything that sticks your throttle open wants binnin in my opinion, some one does a proper electronic one somewhere , wouldnt be cheap tho, i bet
