I injured my shoulder some months back and find I can only hold the throttle open for no more than 15 minutes or so before I have to have a break. My wife has said she wants to start touring Europe again in the Spring and the thought of 4 or 5 hours at a time in the saddle is worrying me. Does anyone out there know of a reliable electronic cruise control for an 1150GS. I am using a bar end mechanical device currently but I find it very difficult to set. Too tight and difficult to overide; too loose and the speed slowly drops. Any useful suggestions (except buying an LT) would be welcome

Alan,

Try this place.... http://woodysimportarium.com/RTcruise index.htm

I remember seeing them displaying photos of the GS system though they seem to missing at the moment...

that could be me and the Red wine mssing the link at the mo....:P

Have you tried fitting a £4.95 throttle rest (get them from M&P)? I had elbow problems about a year ago, got pains after 1/2 hour on the bike, fitted one of them and never had a problem again. Appreciate though that your problem might be more serious than my rheumatoid arthritis (which is what doc said I had).

Look up 'Throttle Control' in the 'Mods' section, not electronic but it might help.

Best solution IMHO would be what I use - a combination of a Throttle Rocker (the wrist rest I think referred to here) and also a 'cruise control' Throttlemeister or the one from Kaoko (excellent product). Both will assist greatly with this problem.

Similar to the "throttle rocker" is the "Cramp Buster" available from Scottoiler

I've used both and find the Cramp Buster doesn't get in the way in traffic or filtering.

Worth a try before you spend lots of money on elecronics...

cruise control

Just got the one thats on a German E-bay site (world voyager)
It is simple to fit in 5 mins, works well even with handguards fitted and really takes the strain out of motorway riding, also it is easy to override It in the case of ermergency, about £45 or thereabouts

Budget option.

Get hold of one of your wife/partner/ladyboy's elastic ponytail restraints, fold it double and wedge it down between the inboard end of the throttle and the switch housing. Instant cruise control !

better budget option

4mm shockcord is the best option, it will keep the elasticity longer .just stretch it between the inside end of the throttle next to the brake lever housing. I actually keep a length of shockcord in my pannier now and so am able to give anyone I meet an instant cruise control, have lots of takers !!!!!!!
You can buy it at any ships chandlers or most good outdoor shops, various colors as well so you can color code to your bike, and will stretch nicely in the gap and then expand back into it. Been using this method for years and it is a very effective cruise control.of course if you rode a proper airhead then you could utilize the friction screw and hey presto, mind you even that is a fiver, the shockcord method is 10p !!!
