Hi
Just wondering if anyone has fitted an aftermarket cruise control to their bike e.g. Kaoko Cruise Controls? I have an F800GS with the OEM handguards.

I've got the Kaoko throttle lock on my F800GS, along with the Touratech hand guards. Works great. But it's my understanding that there are no throttle locks currently available that work with the OEM hand guards because of their replacement bar ends.

Seems that Wunderlich does make one which fits on the OEM hand guards (Alu light weight kit)
Ah, thanks for that info, ide508. I had some vague memory of a throttle lock that worked with the OEM guards, but my aging brain couldn't access the data. :rob

Caterpillar low cost solution

I was thinking of getting a Kaoko Throttle lock for my 800GS, but I really couldn't come to terms with the price ... $155AUS for something which is pretty simple.

I found a few threads where people had used specific caterpillar O rings as throttle locks, and thought for $4AUS why not. The part number that seems to fit my 800 with Barkbusters is 8M5266, there is another size at 8M4991. They are made of silicon and won't be affected by the weather much.

Installation takes about one minute ... remove end of throttle side barkbuster, slide on O Ring and reinstall barkbuster bolt.

I have just tried it, and am surprised to find that it works very well. You just slide the O ring onto the throttle grip in one movement and it is locked, but you can still easily adjust the throttle opening or close it. To disengage, just slip the O ring back onto the end weight. Happens in one easy movement. It is nice to be able to take your hand off the bars, but you wouldn't be able to use it in situations like traffic. Would be wonderful on the infamous Hay plain in Australia

So ... very cheap and simple, it works, is very easy to install, very light weight and ... its yellow and matches my bike!

I still have one for sale

Hi Shagley,
I have the Wunderlich one still in the for sale section.
Not sure about the handguard compatability but it is a beautifully machined part and works perfectly.

I have a 2009 F650 twin and found that the throttle has a locking device on it that if you turn the right handed chrome weight ccw it will hold your throttle to any position but it is a little freaky in that you must be very careful with it after being used to the throttle springing back.

You will find that it does most of the things that the add-ons do but it comes with this bike.

Cheers,
Ray

I have bought a cruise control for my bike and fitted it but have noticed that when I put the heated grips on the throttle tightens up against it.
I know that rubber expands when it heats but any ideas how I can get around this (without taking it off) as it coming into winter here in Sydney and can get cold in the morning on the ride to

Have you heard of/seen the second sun. It's been seen from Australia already. Only visible early in the morning currently (large red blob).
