CRUISE CONTROL ????

Switch it on , press the set button, green cruise control light comes on, let go of throttle expecting cruise to take over but cruise light goes out and no cruise control. Am I doing something wrong or is it screwed. Worked the first time I tried it on day of collecting bike and had 1st service yesterday. Wondering if software has been messed up as throttle also feels slightly different in road mode.

So..... Once green light for cruise is ON do a gradual wind down of throttle ? Drove me nuts today trying to get it to work.

No. Turn it on, press set, then let go of the throttle. I leave mine permanently on, then just hit set whenever I want it to activate it. To turn it off, either brake, or roll the throttle forward, and the green light will go off.

That's what I did but doesn't work. I turn it on, press set THEN I get the green light and as soon as I let go of the throttle it turns off.

That's strange. Maybe the throttle needs adjusting? Mine works perfectly.

Prior to 1st service it worked but that was just trying it out first day on bike. Throttle feels different after first service but maybe I'm just imagining that

Get to your reqd. speed, press 'set', take your hand off the throttle and Bob's your uncle.

I had a mate trashed his 3 Series Convertible a few years ago doing that.

He set it in a 40 Zone, then entered a Motorway and accelerated to a higher speed, he exited an off ramp junction, the car naturally reduced speed from 70mph but when it got to 40mph it carried on going as he had never touched the brakes, the Cruise kicked in to maintain 40mph. He says he was so confused, having only had the car 3 days, he thought the throttle had stuck.

End result he closed the junction for 3hrs in peak traffic, trashed his car and severely damaged the three cars stood at the junction.

He was on the way to a meeting with his new boss, being in the job two weeks, the boss was sat in the traffic jam for 2 hrs, and passing the accident later recalled calling the BMW driver a WanK*r when it was reported on the radio, they all still laugh about it today.

So leaving the Cruise on? No not for me!

For at least the past 10 years, bm's will automatically cancel the cruise control if you accelerate past the set speed for a number of seconds, either 15 or 30, I forget which (its in the manual, but the manual is the car, and I am not). I imagine they made this change for exactly the scenario that you describe.

It was about 12 years ago, but got to say I have a 2008 A4 and it does the same, out tomorrow so will give it a try to see what occurs.

Just a thought could clutch or brake lever be catching hand guard ? Or rear brake lever not returning fully?

Checked both those possible issues. On 1st service they did software update and just wondering if that's the issue

I take it he never thought about hitting the brakes at any time which would have stopped the car and instantly cut the cruise control.

Hey you don't know Dave! Confusion is his middle name, 40K+ miles a year driver, so it must have confused him enough at the time.

Put it this way he swears he has never used Cruise since that day.

All I take from this is is you need to be wearing a Fuc*ing silly looking hat, in some cases a 20" Coc* and be an Olympic Gymnast. All I wanted to do was Ride my new Bike

On a Serious note, Page 54 of the Manual does detail use of the Cruise Control and has an Explicit warning that Cruise does NOT turn off when rolling ON the throttle......

Anyway that's me, bikes out the garage, Riding Gears On and I am off to add some milage!

I just leave the switch in the "on" position, the green light comes on if its active, so when you roll off, it deactivates. Then if you want to reactivate it quickly, just push the set button forward and its on.
