Cruise Control

I'm thinking about one of those bar end cruise control thingy wotsits as I think they are known. The one with the friction wheel at the end.

Has anyone got one that would care to impart any information as to the effectiveness/usefullness etc?

Be grateful of any opinions

Takes a bit of getting used to but I find it a real boon on long trips. When there's a bit of motorway/dual carriageway it gives the throttle hand a rest and helps keep speed under control.

Love mine, mates get really annoyed on long European days when I start waving at them with my right hand, takes them a while to be able to hold a pint sometimes.

They're great on level roads - but if you are anything like me and like to ride at a set speed they're not so great. However, if varying cruise speeds aren't an issue they're fine.

The last time I did any touring I had one of those widgets that goes around the twist grip and you rest the palm of your hand in to take pressure off the wrist. I'm wondering are these other type any better than that?

I got one of these.........same principle as the Throttle Mate, but a bit more refined (and expensive!). It can be adjusted and won't damage your throttle grip rubber. It can also be used on most bikes.

I got the 'go cruise' thing myself - it's very useful on long trips, plus very easy to move from bike to bike

Must admit though, that Omni Cruise seems a much more refined version - I like the thumb operated bit at the back - it would certainly make operating the gadget a bit easier

1. It looks Ugly.
2. One twist screw, and the local Hoodie is walking off with it.

I have one on the bar end with a cog wheel shaped friction adjuster. I find it really awkward to set and un-set because it need so may ferkin turns before its fully let go of the grip. Then its suddenly too tight and hard to undo without jerking the throttle. It can be set to drag the throttle so it needs less grip to hold it open but TBH I think they are silly money for what they offer.

I believe something like this is be better idea. Its a set for whatever friction you want then its an on-off action. But Ive not used this one and it does use some hand grip space and on the other side of the switch gear. But the on-off action would be really useful.

I've also used a cramp buster thingy but never got along with it. At least they are (usually) cheap.

I've got that one too, fitted my previous 1200s no problem but I had to buy a longer hand guard retaining bolt for it to work on the later twin cam, useful for long distance work and easy to use, good piece of kit

After much research I'm gonna go for the Kaoko type, it seems the most unobtrusive and easy to use system. Just missed one on flea bay so if anyone has one they want to sell let me know.

I had the wunderlich bar-end one for my first GS...

I used it on every longish trip, but found it a fiddle to get on.. rolling it on with your pinky was not enough to stop the trottle sliding off.. needed to do that, plus grab it with fore-finger and thumb and put it on.. then roll the throttle up a bit to compensate for the roll-off...

I've since 3D printed one like the omni one. it's one piece and I use O-rings to provide tension.

There are other kinds like this available on the internet.

I've would never go back to a bar-end one.. this is so easy to put on.. quick pressure on the index finger and you are shaking the feeling back into the throttle hand. I've made 3 of them for friends, and they all agree.

Yes Humvee, I think they changed from an 80mm bolt to 90mm on the
2010 onward, no other difference in the unit.

I would not be without mine now.
