Cruise control

Hey guys, just bought my first GS and went for a 2012 Triple black, my question is, can cruise control be retro fitted from a 2013 GS or can anyone give any good suggestions for another option? Although the 2013 models on wards have it I did not like the ride or gearbox on these models so cruise was a sacrifice!

Hi Steve
Can't be retrofitted to hexheads, I had a throttle lock and a throttle rocker on my hexhead.
I did ask my BMW dealer as I wouldn't have bought an LC if it could've been.

I use a Throttle Mate. Its a plastic clip that is easily set to maintain your throttle position so you can rest your hand. Only £10

I had one of these they were great for a long blast on motorway during a germany trip, crude but worth a try at that money

Throttle lock or one of murphskits from the states if you want real cruise control.

I have tried a number of different ones but this is the most effective. The older pre WC GS's cant be retro fitted with p[roper cruise control because they have a mechanical throttle ( ie cables) not an electronic one. Odd really because the last of the RTs before the WC version did have electronic throttles and cruise control

The RT had cruise for a long time, they just never fitted it to the gs/a. As I said earlier Yes it can have proper cruise control you just have to get creative with an aftermarket kit.

My thoughts. Throttle locks involving a threaded ring tightening up onto the outside end of the throttle grip can be cumbersome to operate, needing the ring to be tightened with the same hand that is holding the throttle open. Garry H's device is simple to use, operated with the forefinger and does the job perfectly. Jaws device is beautifully made and when I had one I also, for aesthetic ballance, fitted the corresponding bar end weight to the left bar, so my costs were doubled.

I made this up a while ago for my 1200GS

It went on the bike when i sold it and i never made another one because i much prefer the type i now make because of the one finger operation
Another plus is you can take it off in seconds and put it on another bike ....To be honest it seems to fit most models and works fine

I have a Kako throttle lock. It has a castellated lock ring so is much easier to use than cheaper versions which use a simple knurled ring. The trick is only tighten it enough to hold the throttle open. If you hold it towards the outer end the Kako will loosen as you close the throttle. If you hold it further in, the grip effect will remain.

If anyone is interested I can post pictures. It's for sale because I no longer do the long runs which made it handy to have.

Throttle Rocker - simple, inexpensive, effective. It isn't a cruise control but it does allow you to rest/adjust your fingers.

I just turn the heated grips to max and the throttle sticks open

I had one of these for thousands of miles on my GSA, it was perfect & properly engineered item..
Can't recommend them enough..
