Hi all,

I've got a Dyna Coil kit for R100GS - but the stock HT leads are too short.
I was thinking of going for a set of Dyna custom leads - but I've heard they cause all sorts of problems.

Could anyone help me out here, as I'm not sure whether or not to buy a set? What sort of problems should I expect? (If any?)

I have a high output (Omega) alternator installed, if this makes any difference?

I have a Dyna coil on my 100PD. I bought HT lead and all the fittings from Vehicle wiring products.

RichC is having some high quality leads made up by one of his trade contacts. Send him a PM and see if he can help you out.

Nope!

Just make my own using HT lead and and caps.

HT Lead

Other Bits

Ok looks a bit expensive when I factor in having to buy a crimping tool but that will be used again and then save me some plus I have the satisfaction of making the leads myself.

So am I right in thinking that from the vehicle wiring products site I need two NGK LB05F caps and some copper core HT lead, a crimping tool and some connectors. Which connectors do I need to get from the Vehicle wiring products site? Do I need a connector to go at the plug cap end or just the coil end and which ones should I be getting?

Sorry for the bit of spoon feeding I'm looking for but there are 4 different connectors on the site between the coil and plug types and the cross sections of the plug cap that I can find refer to a self treading cable connector at the cable end so not sure if any connector needed there?

OK, bought copper core HT lead, two NGK LB05F plug caps and rubber caps for coil end plus some terminals from http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/

Easy peasy, discovered that my wire stripping tool had a recess for crimping HT leads and it seems to have done the trick. If they do eventuially work loose I'll solder the wire onto the terminal. Bike runs fine and timing seems fine too. However when strobing I see the occasional spark missing and I can hear the cylinder not fire for that one missing spark. It ran like this too when I had the nology hotwires on it. I'm guessing coil is slightly erratic but bike runs fine and tickover sounds good unless you are listening for that occasional missed spark. I bought 2 metres of HT lead but 90cm would have been more than enough. An easy job for sure.

Also managed to kick start it from cold, was still a good bit of kicking but prior to ditching the nology hotwires I could only kick start it if engine hot.
