Dakar V XCountry ?

Too late

I think she's purchased now :)

I thought the Terra was a similar weight & height to the Dakar - is it not?

Mines 159kg give or take a wet filling mind you you can't compare these 2 different bikes completely

Looked up the spec sheet on the Husky website and it gives the Terra @ 185kg kerbweight, with a 90% full tank of fuel

So more Dakar porky weight range, than a G650X:D

Well the decision was made but she's shown alarming disinterest so far....so I took it out:D

First thoughts are, it's a fun little bike probably as quick as many on tight country lanes which as far as tarmac go's, is my favourite kind of ride so that of course meant I like it.
Good turn of speed and a relief to have no buffeting and little wind noise, no doubt I'll wreck that aspect with a small screen soon:rolleyes:

No wonder it's light!
What little ancillaries there are, are made of cheap shite and plastic, the fuel range is pathetic, surely they could've given it another 50 miles.:blast

Even so, I do like it....let's see if Ange does:)

Congratulations. A very tidy looking bike.

My wife took a couple of weeks to warm to the one I bought, the dive on braking was a bit alarming at first. But she really loves it now and I couldn't get her to turn for home today.

.... the dive on braking was a bit alarming at first.

Can't possibly be any worse than a standard Dakar. :D

.... well don't grab a handful then :D

Feather it in, taper it out, treat that front brake lever like errr mmmm the G spot. Using the front brake is only ever going to slow you down, where's the future, the fun, in that
Disposing of hard earned energy you've taken to get there ....

Keep 'em nailed ... you know it makes sense ;)

:beerjug:

Well, I'm begrudgingly taking the 'extras' off Ange's Dakar.

Why begrudgingly?
Because not only had I got her bike so well sorted but the build quality's in a different league to the X, there's now nowhere simple to mount stuff like an Autocom, the issues of screen, luggage, fuel range etc etc. are starting to become apparent...and expensive.

The way I see it the few advantages the Xcountry has over this Dakar are, the X is lighter, more punchy engine, better handling.

I'm flippin' tempted to keep the Dakar myself and sort it out even further in case she changes her mind:blast:D

Have a look under the false tank. I've mounted an autocom, amplirider etc in the middle and on the left side tucked in a Kenwood radio for bike to bike. Not spacious but it works.

Thanks yes, I'd planned to fix one there:thumb but may just go for a Sena/Scala headset instead.

For what it's worth ...

... the Scala headsets are a much simpler set up, work well (up to 400m) and take up no space on the bike :nenau

Initial reactions, pro's as expected ...... cons mainly expected:

Not as 'planted' as Dakar
Prefer Dakar for Motorway.
Unstable in side wind.

Generally though, more confidence inspiring which is what it's about so get's the :thumb2:thumb2
