Had a pair of pilot Road 4's fitted by a local non bmw dealer. Purely because they are 5 mins away and had fitted tyres to my tiger. This time however*

The workshop manager took ownership of the problem and offered to get the wheel damage repaired by a local specialist. 3 days later I get the call to collect my rt and I find

A shiny silver gloss rear wheel and

the original matt silver front wheel.
Waiting now for a call from the dealer to find out what they intend to do to rectify the problem. Not happy😒

Probably the best option. Had a brandy or two so will think soberly about it tomorrow.

Just reading this post and exactly the same has just happened to me.

Local independent motorcycle shop, that I have used on many times in the past without any issues at all.

Now this is the result:

Straight away the fitter blamed the machine...'Its worn out'......I have told the boss...

Feckkin careless if you ask me.

Also, careless loading onto the balancer:

The front wheel has the paint badly marked, with line all the way round the edge of the rim. Tried T cut without success.

Now, I have OCD about the cleanliness of my bikes, workshop, tools etc etc.

He tried to offer...Oh we will just get that powder coated for you, err no, its not originally powder coated. OK we will get the local car wheel painter to respray them.

Have you ever seen the results that some of these guys do:barf. Might be good enough for a tart up to sell. What about in 6 months when the paint is chipped, dis-coloured, flaking? Who is going to sort that out?

The wheels that I took in were absolutely unmarked, no stone chips, no tar spots etc, etc.

My expectation is that I am put back in the original position and the only way to achieve this is 2 new wheels.

Today, I took the price into him. I thought that he was going to feint.

I don't want to fall out with him personally, he is local, does my MOT's, I buy oil and other small parts from him and I would hate this to end up in the small claims court.

I assume that he will have a business insurance to cover this sort of thing. Can he claim off this for tyre fitting damage?

Unless he can get some wheels at trade prices, he is going to have to stump up the cost. They should have some plastic strips to protect the rim when removing/refitting the tyres.

That is one of the reasons why I fit all my own tyres. That and the tales of tyre fitters wrecking tyre pressure monitors.

Smug, this could be a business opportunity for you. I wonder how many other RT owners have had their rims butchered?
