Dead alternator in R1200GS LC

Hey Leo.....how much did that repair end up costing.....I have the exact same problem and bike is in garage this week.

The bill was usd 2-3k, very labour intensive as you can see. This was for alternator, regulator and mostly labour. Sorry I don't remeber the exact number and the breakdown but it was in the US and 5 years ago so not sure if its a good reference. Luckily in my case the bike was in its last month of warranty.

thanks!

thanks for the feedback chum....bit shocking that something so expensive to repair happens so often in the GS they are supposed to be built to last. am a bit concerned as to what will go next....bike is only seven years old my R1100r is 21 years old and I have has less problems with that!

Well, mine has now 90k miles and haven't had any other major problems since.

It makes sense when these unexpected problems happen to feel disappointed but probably most people in this forum knows it's a tremendous bike and very reliable.

Against all the predictions in this thread the final drive is fine.

My local independent had one in last year with alternator fail. Owner had been sent to them from local mottorad dealer who didn't want to undertake repair.
