Dealer used prices

I have been told by a few guys I know that BMW dealers generally do not accept offers on used bikes. They expect punters to pay the ticket price and it is not negotiable. I am going to have a look at a bike on Saturday from a main dealer and wanted to know if its worth trying to get the price reduced?

If you show serious interest, its always worth haggling. If the bike's just come in, they might not be too keen but if it's been around a while you should get a good deal. Most dealers would expect to knock c. £200 off the price, if not more. Do some homework first - let them know you might be looking elsewhere. Don't appear desperate to buy but do appear serious! Keep smiling, too....if they like you you're more likely to get a deal! Look at other options too - do the tyres need replacing? - is luggage included? Are discs and pads OK? They all cost to replace - better to sort it before the deal as it'll cost you afterwards!

Most dealers will haggle to a certain extent unless they have a very sought after bike in the showroom.

As tigerjohn says, don't go for cash as you will get better value negotiating goods & services as £500 retail to you will cost the dealer a lot less.

A "free" service is a good option as the dealer can insist you have it done when the workshop is slack when they would otherwise be paying the mechanic to twiddle his/her thumbs.

Well its always worth trying - its your hard earned after all. I'd never pay ticket price, ever - its my Yorkshire genes

The 30th would be a fantastic day to rock up and by a bike but you would have to be able to pay for it there and then to get a serious discount. It's all to do with dreaded targets and stock control? the used stock will get knocked down in trade value on the first of every month (although to be fair BMW's a lot less than others) So if your keen tell them you'll do it right now but at your price and don't give in to the "I'll have to ask the manager" shit

All dealers will do some kind of deal.. but the problem is working out what you want them to do it... and make sure you don't waste there time i.e. if you say give me 500 off I'll sign.. make sure you do!

I have never ever paid full price, and always get something thrown in.. but then again that is down to determined negociation!

That's very true. One of the best deals I got was on a GSX-R1000. It was a small independent dealership and a sale had fallen through. He put it on Autotrader at a keen price. I rang up and made him a silly offer, but said he could have my card number there and then if he'd agree. Bingo, he needed the cash flow, i got a deal

I paid £6.0k for my 56 Plate gs from BMW Oxford. Got 500 quid off price shown, plus a new front tyre

Dealer has included a full 12k service, and is giving me a cheque for a year road tax.. Cant be bad to that...

Done the deal today, 07 GS with 11,200K. I managed to get new rear tyre, £250 knocked off the ticket price, years tax and a service prior to pick up next saturday. Cheers again for all the advise. Roll on the 10th (pease stay dry)

How much are you paying if you dont mind ?

£7,250 for a 57 plate. Slightly high I know but I wanted the peace of mind of buying an approved used bike. It is like new though. I looked at a couple of others with less miles and on 08 plate but they were no where near as clean.
