Currently running an acid battery that I swap across the 100 PD / 80 Kalahari and R100R Classic.

I'd like to add a better quality battery maintenance free sealed that I can trickle charge? As much as I like Odessy they're daft money?

Any thoughts of type and place to purchase

Recommendations ? :augie

I had an odessy which went duff within 18 months. I currently use the smaller (g/s) size Motobatt on my R100GS which has been good. I don't bother to trickle charge it over winter.

Ive gust fitted a Exide from Tanya batteries to my Rockster, it looks identical to the OE one that was fitted apart from the BMW sticker. Seeming as that had a 2005 date stamp on it I thought it was worth a punt. I'll get back to you in another 10 years and let you know if it's lasted as long as the original one. About £65 with next day delivery.

Fitted mine in Jan 2007. Still going strong. I plug it into the Optimate whenever its not being ridden.

Yes probably just bad luck or a faulty optimate but I wouldn't buy either again. I have a BMW battery conditioner (old model) which works but don't really need to use it as the bike fires up instantly even if left standing for 2 months.

Motobatt are aroundhalf the price of Oddesy in Oz, so are the first choice for me.
Almost all dealers in Oz have swapped over from Yuasa to Motobatt, so Yuasa are getting hard to find.
I have Motobatt's in all my bikes and have yet to have one fail and the oldest is coming up for 7 years old.
The G/S small one starts the 1000 cc high comp motor first touch ,and has done for almost7 years.
The 20 amp is slightly cheaper and spins the GS over no problem, and leaves a bit storage space.
The big 30 AMP BMW type spins the Subaru Imprezza over fine too, but we dont get real cold mornings here.

I had an odessy which went duff within 18 months.

So did mine.

I was looking at the Motobatt and will probably go down this route in future.

I've been using an old BMW lead acid battery as a door stop for years. Filled it with deionised water last weel, gave it a charge and its now powering my Guzzi. Result!
