So what would you do?

Having sold the GS I'm now on the lookout for something to replace it....... and I have it down to 3 bikes.....

FJR1300 ( I know them from when I had one as a work tool) probably around 2007 budget wise
K1200 S ( can't afford a 1300) Don't want one with Servo ABS so on a 5K budget it's a bit tight
K1200 R or K1200 R sport Again don't want servo ABS

Whatever I end up with it's got to have luggage , or I've got it at a decent enough price to get it kitted out.....

I want it for the odd trip two up, messing around on (and with) and prefer polishing to repairing and fixing

Bryn, you seem to be darting around between bikes that are all 'of an ilk' a lot.....is it that you like changing bikes, or that you haven't found one that you really like yet?

Maybe (if it's the latter) it's time to think outside the box and change your style dramatically?

Have you ever considered a cruiser, or a superscoot?

Didnt the k12's have big transmission problems amongst other things....hence the pronto 1300?

I've always been a bit non plussed with the FJ. Snatchy heavy throttle (the new fly by wire ones are as light as a feather granted .... ) but just a bit dated now Great engine, but thats about it.

The K12s would be my pick of the bunch - another cracking engine that pulls like a steam train on acid....




But ..... (and I hate to admit it ... !) ... does Fanum have a point? Theyre all a bit samey (Kwak GTR .. ). I think a super scoot is pushing it a bit far but why not try something completely different??

Wheels warping, problems with discs, gear boxes .... we had one at driver training and it was off the road more often than on! Great bike when its working though ...

Thought so, i hankered after a blue white and black k12s on a 04/05 plate but as i wanted it for a commuter i couldnt risk getting a bad one.....

At the risk of being shouted at ................ try a T Max 530 , love mine , use it all the time , i use it one up only but it will take a pillion , great every day bike , they tour all over Europe , may be all you need .worth a look , gets more use than my GS day in day out , but most of my big trips are far away these days

EDIT: I can see what you mean with the comments about trying something different... It needs to do two up stuff and she's said she won't go on the back of scooter I still feel like I need something that would take me to the continent if the need arises... which discounts quite a few 'left field ' choices ... and the budget is fairly rigid so a Harley is out of the question

Well..160 miles later and the rusty springs put me off..so still looking.

Get a GS

You have had them all, so now just get a WC GS on a cheap BMW PCP

Just got me a 2006 R1200ST one owner 14000mls fsh and luggage for a lot lot less than your budget.

Bought as a second bike, and it's surprised me a little bit more each day. Lovely motor, gearbox is super smooth and handles very nicely, not one bit of corrosion.

A proper mile muncher, sporty on your own and very good two up.

It wasn't a bike I was considering but glad I did.

You'd be astounded how much old Harleys can be bought for. Granted early Evos are now starting to appreciate but early twin cams are great bikes and so are late Evos and they go on for ever. Alternatively touring Guzzis aren't terribly in demand, it's the retro and sports models that retain their value.
