For what it's worth, I quite like this dealer (GPSCity.com) - I bought my first two GPS units from them, and I buy all my map CD's and updates from them as well. They have fast shipping and good customer service.

They do have a Canadian sub-office that ships from within Canada (to avoid customs and duty problems), not sure if they have a European sub-office, though.

I bought my GPSmap 176 from GPScity and it was here (Sydney, Australia) 5 days later via Fedex.
Well packaged, as ordered, fast delivery.

Only issue I have is that they will not send via US Post/Australia Post.
This is an issue for us as if a parcel arrives via Post it is tax free up to AU$1000 but if via a courier it is only tax free up to AU$250.
So I end up paying 4% duty plus 10% GST (like VAT) plus AU$51 customs fee.

Good to hear a good review of the people I'm thinking of getting a 2610 from in August. It'll be a personal visit to the shop near Vegas though.

PanEuro - Forgive my ignorance but how does this avoid the customs and duty problems or does it just lessen the costs a little?

The reason I ask is that I'm probably going to get a GPS Map60C to run alongside my V as the 56Mb memory makes it a more viable unit with v6 CS, especially on the longer trips. This second unlock comes in handy and I understand your concerns on the other thread.

I was going to use the USA site but if the Canadian one works out better for me I'm happy to place my order with them.

TIA

Following on from above I've just tried online to check Canadian prices and there is no option to select shipping to any country other than Canada :(

If there was and I assumed the shipping cost to be the same it works out about £10 more than the USA site - must be the weak dollar.

Anyone know what the duty will be? So far I'm working on 10% duty on the total cost (including shipping) and then add 17.5% VAT on top of that.

I'm sorry, I should have made clear that my residence is in Canada - so, ordering from a Canadian office makes it a domestic shipment for me, no importation, duties, customs, etc.

You said you have to pay 10% duty and then 17.5% VAT (which I presume is probably calculated on the value after duty has been applied) - I really feel bad for you. Isn't there some kind of common market in Europe that GB participates in? Would it be possible to buy your GPS in an EC country that has lower duty and VAT, then import it to GB legally, based on the "free movement of goods" principle? (Just a shot in the dark, neither Canada or Switzerland have these duty and tax problems, and those are the two places where I spend most of my time).

Aah, the penny drops :)

I'm not overly fussed about the duty and VAT as it still works out £150 cheaper for me to buy one from the USA and have it shipped over than it does to buy from a UK supplier.

I realise units that come with UK mapping are more expensive but I don't see how they can justify the mark up on units supplied without mapping.
