I called by Park Lane today and placed a (refundable) deposit for the 1300 that they have there. Brand new, and they have it up at list price.

Getting home and looking through the configurator I'm now thinking of changing the order for one that's exactly to my spec. Theirs has nearly all that I'd want, but doesn't have the height adjustable suspension and does have the enduro kit which I'm not really all that interested in.

If I'm now not going to be taking this one for immediate use, then I've got a bit more time to think through spec, and would appeciate any owners thoughs on what they've found to be well worth having, or whether anything feels a bit pointless.

Here's the spec of the bike I've put the deposit on

020B DSA
0219 Deluxe headlight
0222 Gearshift assistant Pro
0224 Driving modes Pro
0235 Dynamic package
024A Enduro package Pro
0272 Preparation, navigation unit
02NA Sport brake
0381 Operating instructions, English
0457 Style GS Trophy
0547 Sports suspension
0633 Off-road tyres
0636 Centre stand
06AC Intelligent emergency call
06AE Teleservices
0736 National version Great Britain
077E Comfort rider's seat high
077K Cross-spoked wheels II
08CA EU scope
0992 Control for retailer equipment

For the amount of money you’re about to spend I’d say spec exactly what you want even if you have to wait, the spec of that bike wouldn’t interest me at all, but I’m not you

Do you carry a pillion? If so get the passenger kit

Get the electric windscreen, it’s amazingly effective, the small screen is ……small
(These may come together in the comfort pack

I wouldn’t want the sports suspension, I went the opposite way and got the adaptive ride height and it’s great, even if I don’t have duck’s disease

Enduro package ? I prefer cylinder head guards, again that’s personal preference

Get heated seats, they’re cheap and good

If you want to fit a top box, even if it’s not the vario, get the aluminum top box rack, see the threads in the 1300 section

Wheels on a trophy must be gold

Thanks.

I’m not actually very clear on what the sports suspension is. I’d normally assume more expensive damper, but on the configurator they talk about it being to improve it off-road, which I don’t care about.

Height-adjusting suspension appeals for when I have to quickly get a foot down, hard when maneovering at low speed in traffic, but I’ve half a mind to just spec that and virtually nothing else.

It looks like someone has specced it with the idea of doing more off road type riding hence the off road tyres & sports suspension. Probably ok but if you are doing mainly road riding you'd definitely want to change the tyres. Think I would spec a new bike with exactly what YOU want.

Spec yours for you…

This one looks like it’s been specced up just for one persons idea of their perfect bike.

One man’s meat is another man’s poison ….as they say.
So go through the configuration bit on the BMW site, and decide what you want/need.
Make it yours, as you want it, so you are not paying for something you don’t want/need/use.

It’s a lot of money, so it’s worth getting exactly what you want on it.

Heated seat is good, worth having in the UK
Electric windscreen and winglets is really good - great on the motorway.
I have deluxe headlight which is just the as standard one as far as I know
Adaptive cruise/Blind Spot detection - I have this not too fussed about personally
wheels - I have the standard wheels ,as a positive easy cleaning, the forged /spokes definitely look better.
Comfort seat standard height is ok.
I do not have the lowering suspension, no regrets for me as mostly a solo rider

As far as I know the dealers can access in stock bikes/bikes in the pipeline so should be able to give you a few options. I think sports suspension might be a wee bit taller, and along with a comfort seat high you will have quite a tall bike - that spec sounds quite left field for most.

You'll most likely regret it, especially if you're differing now, order the exact bike you want and not what might be suitable.

I’ve decided that I’ll spec my own, so now just need to struggle with what’s worth it for me.

I’m feeling a bit of a dichotomy between just getting the utterly basic model and all the bells and whistles.

You'll get lots of suggestions now :-). My personal ones are -- don't waste money on the headlight pro, just get the auxillary (spot) lights. If you have an inside leg measuremt of 32" + consider the high seat and adaptive suspension (you'll still be able to put your feet down when stopped due to the adaptive suspension & the high seat will give you a less cramped knee angle whilst riding. Electric windscreen, heated seat, comfort pack (includes wind deflectors) . Forged wheels if you willing to pay the cost.
Lot of the things are just personal preferences. Don't bother with the Akro the sound doesn't change much.

One thing that I’m not yet clear on is which bits have to be part of a pack and / or are cheaper in a pack.

This is at least a three-beer problem…

Northern boy

Take time to go through the configurations……
It will eventually become clear to you what comes with each “pack” and what you can order as a stand alone ….
It also tells you how much it all is at the end.

Take your time making the decisions on what you want, and what you don’t need.
It’s a very personal choice, and one persons choice will not suit the next person.

Have fun

+1

The configurator is your friend. Yep, take some time out to peruse!

As said it's a personal thing but the things i wouldn't do without are electric screen , heated seat and suspension lowering. Oh and get Tourance next tyres , they are rather good.

Conti TA 3 way way better , suit the bike , Tourance do loose traction a bit , well they did when I ran mine in Jan . The TA3 are like Velcro . Taken off at 600 miles as found them skittish..

Ask the sales bod at your dealer, it is their job to advise and relive you of ££££

No such thing as a bad modern tyre (for those of us that remember the 1980’s), but some modern tyres are better than others, and some road tyres suit an adventure style bikes handling characteristics very well.
