Desierto 3 vs Adventure OEM

So, 08 GSA, 6'2, Adventure OEM + Touratech lockable extension, in highest position (after "cliteroctomy"), and I'm still not happy. I have a Baehr seat, which I use front high, rear low. Schuberth C2 helmet.The leg position seems a bit cramped, strangely so.
After the "cliteroctomy" I seem to have moved the buffeting away from my nose, on top of my forehead. It is better. But : 1 due to the high angle, I have increased drag terribly, which means poor aerodynamics, which means, among other things, bad mileage and 2 after "cliteroctomy", something like 20 km after, I discovered the plastic adjuster tap separated from the long metal screw , leaving one end of the windscreen almost hanging.
So, my faith in the OEM shield has been drastically shattered. And I don't want to replace it with some huge barn door (no Aeroflow or CB 22 / 22).
I was wondering if the Desierto 3 does anything over the Adventure OEM (other than looks). Not many details available about height, not sure if it's better manufactured.
Also I leave in a cold East European country ; we do have 3 months of very hot summer, but we also have around 4-5 cold/rainy(snowy) months a year. So I'm not sure wether an apparently small shield, designed for the desert !/? (or maybe just marketing gimmick), can offer the adequate protection from the elements.

There's a couple of guys on here who have fitted the Desierto on the standard GS and I think they've reported little improvement in air flow - it was mainly for looks. I can't believe it is therefore an improvement on the Adv screen.

My experience has been that you want the screen low rather than high, so start off from the bottom notch and work up.

The C2 is certainly not the best helmet in the world - if noise is your problem.

Ive ridden a demo 1200 with the Desierto screen from Bahnstormer (a totaly Tourateched bike) in Surrey and I was very impressed. it was so quiet, but at £450 ish far too expensive for a quiet ride.

Ive since got a 1200 myself and am looking to quieten/smooth the airflow out.

My previous 1150 was more acceptable and that was with the screen at its lowest setting and in that position the airflow was about 2 inches above the top of my helmet.... (I'm 5'10) at 70 - to 80 mph !!

Any more ideas greatly appreciatied

Thank you for the reply. I am going to try a police (double visor) BMW System 5. I'm sure it will improve fogging issues, don't know about noise/buffeting.
I am reluctant to going low with the windshield. I ride for extended periods of time, long distance. Airflow will get me and my passenger tired a lot quicker, and also it will make for a colder ride (trust me, in Romania, early spring, late autumn and winter are really cold ).

I am one of these guys that had a Desierto. My current ADV with standard screen is prefered for protection.
If that is not enough (and/or if you are tall) you can top it off with a spoiler as well

I've declitted the adjusters and also have the Touratwat clip on.. But I've also added some torbinators to tilt the screen back.

This gives a small gap at the bottom relieving the low pressure behind the barndoor screen.

This gives me extremely smooth aiflow... I can sit with my flip helmet up at 90mph...


The main problem is the airflow is soo smooth that there isn't sufficient flow to keep my helmet visor from misting even at high speeds.

It also gives a strange phenomenon where raindrops are pulled away from you towards the screen..

For about 20 quid you've nothing to loose.

Can you please post a photo of your setup ? I don't understand where the torbinators come into place ...
