This question has been playing on my mind for some time – with the exception of the R1100S, are the rest of the oilhead models effectively the same bike with different fairings, handlebars, wheels, shocks and foot hangers?
Could you, for instance, take an R1100RS and turn it into a GS simply by stripping away all the fairing and other gubbins and adding GS bits? Admittedly it might not be cost effective but I’d still like to know. If anyone has any images of a stripped down GS along with other oilhead models, I’d be grateful if you could post them.
