Difference between Oilhead models?

This question has been playing on my mind for some time – with the exception of the R1100S, are the rest of the oilhead models effectively the same bike with different fairings, handlebars, wheels, shocks and foot hangers?

Could you, for instance, take an R1100RS and turn it into a GS simply by stripping away all the fairing and other gubbins and adding GS bits? Admittedly it might not be cost effective but I’d still like to know. If anyone has any images of a stripped down GS along with other oilhead models, I’d be grateful if you could post them.

The 1100 Roadster is actually an 1100GS engine/transmission/rear drive encapsulated in a different front end and with different wheel sizes and accessories hanging off. That also goes for the 850 as well.

The 1150 I don't know about but it's probably the same deal.

The 1100RS and 1100RT or whatever, are different engine and exhaust systems to the 1100 GS.

For what it's worth, if you wish for a GS then buy a GS, the trouble and compromises made by conveerting, let alone the cost are not worth it.
