Difference between Touratech panniers?

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a set of Touratech panniers for my 1150GS, but would welcome some sage advice from you lot as to what the actual differences are between the Street Version, Standard and Zega Pro (aside from some plastic bumpers on the edges)?


Any pointers on which to get are greatly welcome. Will be used for two week camping tours, shopping runs and the like...

I got the 'special set' for my 1150, 2nd hand off this forum with frames for a great price. It comprises 2 x 41ltr panniers but the exhaust side pannier has a cutout for the silencer (loses 2 ltrs) so it sits close to the bike, but you need an exhaust extender that takes the gasses out beyond the pannier so it doesn't overheat and melt your numberplate. They're neat and tidy. I like em

I think I should be on commission At the Dragon Rally yesterday 5 or 6 people asked me about my panniers when I was unpacking and I lost count of the number of people who took pictures of his web address on the back of the boxes.

IIRC the street version are boxy and clip onto the standard bmw mounts. The standard are boxy and fix to TT frames. The pros are slightly less boxy, use the TT frames and have plastic corners.

It's probably all in the catalogue.

Yep, the catalogue gives a good description, but I'm looking for real world advice... Which would be easier to live with, if one is better quality that the other, that sort of thing...

I've never seen any Touratech panniers up close (no one stocks them here, and the R1200GSes around here all have the BMW panniers)

Mine have done over 80,000 miles all over the place, been down the road several times and bashed straight again and fallen off a few times over very bumpy roas, (Yukon in Canada) recommend them anytime. When brought they were unique but never regretted it at all. If your are going over rough terain do put a strap around them and round the frame as they can come off
but this is in extreme conditions (Dalton Highway for one), get the bags as well so easy when you get to a hotel to hook all the gear out and just carry it in. No experience with anyone else's so this is NOT a slagging off post but just my own experience.

I have some Ards Cases I am very happy with. I think for the price of TT you can get some built to your spec by Roger or Vern. Roger was just up the road from me so easy to get the job done but many others out there as well.

Buy touratech if you want third best.... VND if you want useable panniers at a very good price compared to the touratech dirty tin boxes

Awfers....don't muck about with panniers.....you can go through 3 or 4 sets of the lightweight fragile ones, discarding each as you go, then one day, you'll realise what you should have done in the first place.

Or, you can jump straight to that point right at the start and just speak to Vern......get the measurements YOU want, maybe even two different sizes of lids so you can swap and change, but you won't ever regret buying them

TT panniers are good they are also good money..

MM do solid boxes that make TT seem less expensive.

also there is a TT on nearly every continent in the world. so if you have an issue you could have it sorted..

also TT boxes are the box they all wanted to emulate..

but im biased.

so buy TT panniers and keep me in a job!!

Depends what you want them for.
I had a set of zegas on a ktm 950 adv.superly light ,was able to crank the bike right over,never knew they were on .
.Plus did my job perfectly.
Folk get hung over about panniers that can survive a crash.What do you intend to do when using them?

I have a set of the TT 35/41 litre ones, they have been fine, I got them from ebay at a decent price. It is worth knowing that 1150 and 1100 ones are the same,
If I was buying new I reckon the worldbeaters are very nice indeed

BMW System plastic panniers have done a fine job for me over the last 20 years

Or are you going to Tesco with alloy ones :-0

In reality for holding stuff they are fine & were in existence long before alloy panniers were dreamt of

I have exchanged quite a few emails with Vern since last night, the boxes look fantastic.

Thanks Timlorga for pointing them out, and for your recommendations.

Want to see them next to the Touratech ones, but so far Worldbeaters are in the lead... (will be able to see the touratech ones this weekend)
