Hi All

Not being very familiar with BMWs I dont really know the differnces between an "ordinary" GS and an Adventure? From piccies I can see the seat is different, but i suspect theres more to it than seat and price!:P

Is there a website with the differences covered? Or can someone summarise briefly? Google isn't helping me with this?

Many thanks.

As far as I am aware the diferences are:

Different gear ratio's (lower?)
Taller Suspension
Bigger Tank (option)
The one piece seat as you say
Weight
Wider Screen
Posey Alumin Boxes (option)
Rims/valve covers colour

Parts are all interchangeable, with some work. I saw a GS1150 rebuilt with the adventure sub-frame and seat on ebay a few weeks back. Looked smart in Blue/White.

The engines the same.

No doubt a GSA owner will correct me if I am wrong or add some more!

Stainless steel brake hoses.
Higher seat
Better colour... THE SILVER ONE.
Long range tank 30L (Standard)

There is only one choice.

R1150GS ADVENTURE SILVER. (not the dull and common black)

Thanks for the replies Chaps.:) Interesting. I sthe Adventure lighter or heavier? Or lighter standard parts to offset the additonal weight of teh available extras, if you see what I mean?

So, if I'm honest, most of it would be wasted on me and I'd probably be better spending the extra money on getting a later or lower mileage "ordinary" one then.:o

There again, i could probably tell better yarns with the right looking bike.;) :P

Damn you BMW. I hate options, they reduce my clarity!:P

Taipan. I notice you are a senior member with 289 posts.

Forgive me, but why don't you already know the differences between the GS and GSA? What were your other 280+ posts about? (please don't list one-by-one :P ).

My first post was "what sort of carbs are fitted to my 1100". It sort of went downhill from there really!:P :D

I've never really even seen an 1150 up close. I spent a bit of time browsing at Steptoes loaner whilst he worked on my bike. But apart from seeing them on the road, thats about my experiance of them.

I just wondered how the Adventure differed. I wondered if it had a more powerful engne or soemthing? They seem to be more expensive than a standard GS and I wondered why.

Adventure= Big Fat Lardy Ugly looking son of a Bitch....

GS=Smooth Svelte Agile Beautiful Sleek...

Chalk and Fekkin Cheese....:D

hi, first post on here (first of many i hope)

I have seen some GSA's with clear indicator lenses, does this indicate the ABS model?

Also, I read that it has a short first gear and 6th is no longer overdrive, does this mean that fuel economy suffers? (hence bigger tank ;) ) can anyone clear this up

Last question, seen some advertised with 'bigger tank' I thought all GSAs had the larger 30 litre tank as standard, is there an even bigger one.....surely not.

Cheers folks, top forum by the way.

Richard.

Agree 100%. I was just curious that someone could be so involved in a GS forum and not know the differences. Not a criticism; and now I know the reason. And I have learned a lesson too!

Subframe is the same, just the seat brackets that are different -

The ADV is heavier -

Just consider the GS as size L

and the ADV as XL -

apart from the extra height ( if you have ohlins shocks, your GS will be higher anyway) , you can't tell the difference when riding one -
