Hi all - just thought I'd plumb the collective wisdom here :)

2010 R1200GS adventure, recently had the 12k mile service from Steptoe and was running fantastic. This morning however, turned over fine but would not catch - until I gave it a touch of throttle. Ran rougher than usual, and in a quick shakedown ride seemed to be down on power and a lot more vibration. From what I can see it feels a lot like plug or more probably, ignition coil problems.
Going to disconnect the secondaries and see how it is, then repeat with primaries - but was wondering if there's anywhere else that ought to be worth taking a look at?

Cheers!

It could also be a failing coil. Check the header pipe temperatures the swap the primary coils left-right and see if the hot pipe moves over. Don't leave it too long. My failing coil cause that side to run VERY rich which ruined the O2 sensor with soot.

Before I get accused of catatrophising - check the simple things as Miff says, then rule out the potentially damaging stuff.

Checked out the bowden cable box - main cable looked to be seated fine. I did adjust the handlebars right before this so it was certainly worth a look.
Going to pull secondary plugs on both sides, see if it will run - if not, one of the mains has to be going/gone - if not, repeat with secondaries. I've got a set of old plugs that were pulled at the 12k so if needed I'll switch those out to see if a plug has gone bad.

There's a little black rubber plug on each throttle body. These are used for balancing the TBs. Check one hasn't been knocked off.

Sorry. I'm on the phone.

Hi,

I have this exact issue and I've be informed by BMW that it is the secondary ignition coil.
However, Vines (Guildford) can't see me till 28th June!!!
Did you get to the bottom of your issue? I'm hoping to understand if this is simply a part that needs replacing.

Thanks,
Adam.
