Disabeling programmes on start up

Hi all,

My ex's Sony laptop is running very slow on boot up etc. I can't remember for the life of me how to dissable all the unused programmes on startup to speed things up.

Laptop not a year old yet and it is a widescreen Vaio running windows etc.

Could one of you pc gods point me in the right direction please

Or if you install Microsoft Windows Defender from Microsoft's website it adds a new option to your Control Panel that allows you to control what does and doesn't get loaded at system start up

You could also try CCCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/ - which will also fix any registry issues and generally clean out all the crap such as old prefetch data that can effect performance.

This site - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/ - to identify the system start progams and if you can delete them.
