Rattle on start up

Hi All, picked up my Gsa on Friday love the bike so far just one question
When i start it after being left a while the cam chain rattles until the oil presure comes, up had a similer thing with my r1100s, cured with a modifyd tensioer, not over worried just wondered if "they all do that sir"

Yep they all do that sir it's the decompressor thingy once the initial shock of hearing it passes you forget it.

Camchain woes

I never had such a camchain noise on mine before it broke.

Mind you - full root cause hasn't been investigated yet - I think there is a little more to it than just the camchain.

Just before she went pop, I heared a sound much like the big ends worn out - and very loud.

So I am wondering if something else broke, locking the valve train, and breaking the camchain?

We will find out in time...

Both of my GS LC's have enjoyed this rattle on start-up, it comes from the right hand bank, sounds like like valve train clatter just before the chain tensioner pumps up (presume it has a chain in there) anyway I ignore it as it doesn't bother me!

PS. Didn't know that the engine had a decompressor thingy?

Yes, I was aware of the decompressor - you can hear it at startup.

I've not noticed it on mine yet but my K1200GT had a terrible chatter on start up.

A modified cam chain tensioner was fitted with a built in oil chamber as a free recall and it sorted it 100%.

Mine was done under recall some 6 / 7 years from when the bike was new. I had done some 30k miles before the mod was fitted

Yes mine was a 2007bike and I got it done last December. A lot of it is down to research and forums as the mod had been out about 2 years but owners just didn't bother or didn't know about the "campaign"
