So after you have washed and dried the bike, I’ve never dried a bike! just pop round the block Use the brakes and all will be fine.

IIRC brake disks are simple cast iron so rusting is inevitable. Couple of hundred metres and the disks are abck to their pristine condition.

Sintered pads have metal in them. Dry the bloody disks with a towel or something after washing. That's always worked for me.

Always dry it with a bike dryer and the front wheel is normally next to the rad.

I will give that a go , but never had to do this before on any other GS , its just puzzling.

Agree but the new pads seem for some reason to hold moisture and no matter how I dry them ,( even had a fan heater on them ) the pads stick to the disc.

Sounds like all of your riding is on the track

They are bloody cracking anchors on the 1250 though, sure you’d agree, the best that I have had on any GS.

They are great brakes and stop well , really well . The disc are showing wear I suppose but just cant understand the rusting and the pads sticking and leaving a rust patch even after I have dried the bugger.
The rear even has pitting now where the pads have been stuck..

Best thing to do is give the discs a good slathering of ACF50

That will stop them rusting and will also ensure that the pads never ever stick to the disks

I direct my bike dryer nozzle into the top side of the brake callipers for 20 seconds or so after washing - it blasts all of the water out - guess what? no rusting or sticking pads - one learns theses tricks as one gets older and more experienced.

Always blast out water from the top of the engine too otherwise all hidden bits will corrode too, direct the dryer at the front shock and each side until no more water comes out

One also learns not to be so precious over an inanimate object. I honestly haven't washed any of my vehicles, bikes or cars, in over 10 years.
Admittedly the cars might get an eastern european car wash once every 6 months if they're lucky.

I’ve learnt that bikes are more precious than most animate objects.

But do you own a LC 1200 or 1250.... We know the corrosion resistance is not what it once was...

My guess is probably no.

My 1250 has been washed once since June, and yes there is some rust on the discs. Does it matter? No as it all cleans up once the brakes are applied.

Nope. But i own an old Guzzi and the discs get a coating of rust after being parked for more than 5 minutes, and that's in summer.

The rust improves the braking by adding more friction.

Have had similar experience with my 1200.
Following washing and putting the bike away I don’t operate the brake controls, I suppose the pads are not actually touching the disks. .

This works for me , no pads annoyingly binding to the disks

I’m really at a loss here. Been for a ride, bike is covered in shit, put it in garage until a dry day. Wash bike, go for a 10 min ride, all residual water is blown away, brake discs are clean, pads are warmed up so no problems.

Bike dryers, FFS get a life.

I works for me and a lot of other people . I would never leave any bike dirty especially this time of year with all the salt etc so that’s why I clean them once back , it’s part of the fun , do a long ride , get back , crack a tinny wash dry relax .
Never commute so it’s a hobby thing and the pleasure I have from riding and looking after my bike . A life , yeah it’s great , no worries , well apart from the discs , if this keeps happening I will just buy some new ones bla bla bla
