Any recommendations on decent alarmed disc locks that fit the GS LC? Not sure if the discs are different so wanted recommendations.

Get yourself an Abus Detecto 8000 - not sure if they are still in production but you should still be able to find one online. Things are solid and it fits the GS.

Plus 1 for the xena. Any body got a simple method to remind yourself its on?

Yes I was looking at the Xena locks, just wanted to make sure they would fit before I ordered one.

Yes:

1. Jump onto and fire up your awesome steed

2. Engage gear, check your mirrors, hoon forwards

3. If the device is in place, you'll receive a foolproof, simple and above all reliable reminder each and every time

Works for bikers every day.

Other than Lord Wapper's excellent advice - which works every time, I use one of these attached to front brake lever as a reminder:

If your disc lock comes in a small carry pouch you could also attach it to the brake lever somehow.

Another simple solution is attach a bit of string to your lock just long enough to go up to your front brake lever and attach to said lever with a rubber band (total cost for this Yorkshire spec solution is about 10p) :thumb2

Of course all of the above rely on you bring bright enough to realise that something is attached to your brake lever before you move off. If that isn't the case then use the solution recommended by Richard in post above :D

If you have an alarmed disclock it should go off as soon as you sit on the bike or move it slightly anyway

Take an old bungy strap.

Cabletie one end to the disk lock or attach it any way you like so that it does not come off.

Pull other end of bungy up to the throttle grip and wrap it around. Wrap it around the brake lever too, if your bungy (and strength / imagination) will stretch to it.

Add streamers or cuddly toy if you really must.

Job done. It really is that simple to dream something up as an alternative to the more obvious (but 100% reliable) method as outlined in post #6.

Some come with a brightly coloured lanyard to hook over a lever to remind you. Easy enough to make one if not supplied.

Just noticed Mozz has provided a piccie.....that's the beast.

Thanks chaps.....The cuddly toy sounds like a winner.:D

Buy a packet of bright yellow pipe cleaners. When not in use wrap one round the bolt of the disk lock; when it is in use wrap it round your throttle or clutch grip. A few pennies or a pound or something for a pack of 25 so you can carry some spares and they also have a multitude of other uses on the bike and around the house.

I have a Xena and its been crap: batteries go flat in a couple of weeks and rain sets the alarm off. I use it without the alarm now.

a bit of tubing over the disc lock key, when you need the disc lock you need to take the tube off of disc lock key - put it on your ignition key.

No way can you start the bike with the disc lock on.

Its a bit useless if you have key less ignition though :-)

Any more disc lock recommendations?
May be a simple one without an alarm would be better as I have an alarm anyway.

The xena one that doesn't have an alarm then :P

I thought of putting some plastic tubing on the keys, but the bike key is a lot bigger than the xena key. Back to the cuddly toy.

Has anybody any experience with Roadlok?

They work well. Not cheap when compared to some disk locks, which might put some bods off. Of course they won't stop you trying to ride forward with the lock fitted but the much reduced distance you'll maybe travel might stop you spilling your awesome steed (and you) onto the tarmac.

You might also hear some bods expressing earnest concerns over a device that fits to just one caliper but not the other, spouting on about unbalanced weight or some such nonsense. Others might wibble on that your insurance will definitely be invalid as you've tampered with your brakes. Ignore their twaddle.

I can confirm that this works :blast :D

Bright yellow Oxford omega on mine, comes with a reminder cable thing to put over the throttle side of the bars , well that's what I do anyway. Easy to fit and thatcham approved.
