Hi All,
I am currently looking to buy a 1200GS and one of the options I want is the BMW pannier system, but I may be able to source it cheaper than the dealer is offering - so I was wondering how difficult it will be to fit myself?

I might be able to get them from a friend of a friend who works for a BMW dealer in Germany so It would be really useful if anyone has got a list of all of the delaer fitted/supplied options with the official BMW part numbers as well so he can get me prices on the panniers and maybe some bits and bobs :clap

Cheers

David

The Vario panniers fit straight to the mounts that are standard on all UK spec bikes.

There is nothing to buy or fit.

The pannier simply 'click fits' on to the bike.

I think you need to get the right locks to match your ignition key?

Remember to check the height of the mushroom bolts before trying to fit them! ;)

And threadlock them while you're at it :thumb

Thanks for that - i was sure someone had told me that there was a rack that needed to be fitted :nenau

I did think about the locks and was thinking that a local dealer could reprogram them for me.

Has anybody got a list of the part numbers?

I have seen people quoting anything from free to £25 to re-do the locks on the vario panniers.

Most UK dealers will probably discount panniers, especially since you are buying a bike.

I paid £350 for mine - and that included matching the locks.

It may not be worth paying to ship the Vario Panniers over from Germany, and there is nothing else you need other than sorting out the locks.

You only need the rack adapter plate is you intend fitting the topbox as well.

For a full parts fiche type in maxbmw into google and this will bring up the US web site. The 1200GS parts fiche is on there. Part numbers should be the same as UK.
