Seeing as the weather is crap and I'm a bit of a messed and an engineer of 44 years i thought I'd have have a go at making some mounts to fit my old (gs1200) panniers to the new bike, I've got a decent 3d printer , I've ordered so PA6 CF (CARBON FIBRE REINFORCED)filament, these are just cheap PLA to prove the concept.

I've got 25 kg in there and there not moving, just figuring out the latching system,

Keeps me out of the house anyway

The printing bit is easy, it's the fusion360 that rattles the brain

Have you perfected them yet. There is a market for them as the other options are so expensive!

That looks complicated! Didn’t expect it to be a plastic/nylon fabricated item from the title.
On another note I made my own Shad system in steel and the was a labour of love to make it functional and cosmetically good.

carbon fibre reinforced nylon, not just plasick, is the same material that apduro use for there mounts for there panniers, this side looks abit convoluted is its the exhaust side, the other side are just flat , just the mounting points and a flat peice joining them together

Would that carbon filament need some fancy 3D printer as I wouldn’t imagine my Bamboo Labs mini would not cut it?

Would be very interested to see the end result.
Will you be passing on the file for us not so proficient 3D designers!

right nearly there just need to sort the fasteners out, the ones used are just for mock up, now printed in PA6 CF reinforced, they fit well are solid and are very strong712153098_3749389141870887_3896944665073339635_n.jpg689026787_3749389098537558_1124885902852173847_n.jpg710831963_3749389051870896_8046718043316771424_n.jpg710781928_3749389011870900_1137279525756761571_n.jpg710365915_3749388948537573_6240788475184212545_n.jpg710351772_3749388861870915_5693385701314335443_n.jpg710404522_3749388798537588_6793291220634812050_n.jpg

I can see the attraction of saving a tenner.
Offset, though, by the thoughts of a loose pannier bowling along the motorway at seventy.
And the subsequent tricky conversation with the insurers afterwards.

The 3D printing skills impress me. 👍

The mounts are of the same material that apduro make there's from, I've also had 50 kg in there for a week with no moment, it's not about the money if I wanted to id buy a new set op panniers I just have the equipment to make my own

I admire your industriousness - if there’s such a word.
My post was actually a backhanded compliment to your skills and tenacity.
I’d just have my own reservations for the reasons I mentioned above 👍 and in an age where insurers will bend over backwards to renege on a payout or claim, I’d hate to give them an opportunity to short change me in the hopefully unlikely event of me ever needing to make a claim.
The conversation with insurers about stickers, PPF, pillions, standard bike or not, sir, mileage, colour and what have you? Is bad enough in my books.🙄
