My previous BMW was a R1200 GS TU 2012. This model was the last twin cams and despite spending over £7,500 in repair costs during my two years of ownership, I still deeply regret selling it. Thankfully, it was to a forum member whom promised to give her a good home!

I decided it was about time I had another, so I sourced a BMW R1200GS TE 2018 from Cooper BMW Motorrad Sunderland via the BMW Motorrad online approved bike service; total amount @ £14,100

Fundamentally, is it entirely reasonable that BMW Motorrad dealers would treat their customers with contemptuous cavalier indifference and seemingly use customers bikes as THEIR own courtesy or demonstrator bikes?

On 10.04.2019 I paid a deposit via debit card @ £250 and despite my request for the provision of bank details, these were not forthcoming until 20.04.2019, whereupon I paid the balance @ £13,850 via online banking faster payment.

However, the bike has yet to be delivered and upon my experience of their customer service, I am intrigued what is the general consensus of opinion on this forum.

Furthermore, it would appear the internet is awash with scathing derogatory reviews; (hindsight is indeed 20/20).:(

Moreover, a recent thread on this forum that was started on 22.04.2019 would strongly suggest the dealer is actually using my bike as a customer courtesy bike or a customer demonstrator.

a) My bike is the ONLY BMW R1200 GS TE 2018 in "their bike stock inventory";
b) My bike is still advertised as for sale on their own dealer website, Ebay and the BMW Motorrad approved website. :(

Their attitude in the past lost them the sale of 3 brand new GSA's in the last 8 years and having had numerous issues with them with purchases in the past I not only complained about them to BMW UK but also dobbed them in to a senior member of BMW Motorrad staff at the Intermot who was asking opinions of UK Motorrad dealers.

In my dealings with them they have been an utter shower of sh*te , myself and many others in the north east travel north the Dalkeith or South into Yorkshire rather than use Coopers

I have the same opinion but I think Neil’s last comment on their customer interactions sums them up perfectly!!!

Hi Neil

Thanks very much for your reply which concurs my doubts and reservations about this dealership are well founded.

On 09.04.2019 the dealer advertised the bike as having covered 2,697 miles, which is same mileage STILL detailed on all their online "bike available for sale adverts".
On 10.04.2019 the dealer provided me with a video which details the bike as having covered 2,763 miles (when I paid my deposit).
The post by the forum member would strongly suggest the dealer is perfectly happy to continue using my bike as their courtesy or demonstration bike.
I await confirmation of what mileage is presently indicated and when I can reasonably expect delivery.

Perhaps the forum moderators would give due consideration to the creation of a BMW Motorrad dealer review section / database to readily identify the good and the bad.

Simple matter tbh, get Your money back and buy from a dealer who will supply a bike as soon as you pay for it, with great customer service included in the price.

Get your money back and go elsewhere- taking the piss!!

Had a similar thing with On YerBike years ago, bought a ZZR 1100, and they leant it to MCN for a roadtest!!!
Only found out a week after I collected it as was centre spread getting ragged around!!!

yep, money back, they have failed to deliver to you within a reasonable time frame .if its not with you in five days, write a written request for a full refund. Take the letter to the dealer principal and hand to to him personally.

I sympathise with the situation you're in but if it makes things slightly easier I can confirm that the bike which was used as a comparison was not the one you posted in the link. It was a blue R1200gs with blue frame etc. The bike I was given today as a courtesy bike is a brown 19 plate R1200gs TE exclusive with a tinted GSA screen.
I'm not defending them at all but hope this makes you feel a bit better!

Did you have MUG on your forhead when you walked in the dealers?... FFS, get your dosh back and deal with people who respect your business... I mean its not just a few quid is it... they are taking the piss out of you!!

Get your money back, i recently purchased a GSA and as soon as i put deposit down i was given a date to collect. The mileage stayed the same as advertised as it should be, hope you get your money back and find a better dealer.

He lives in Wales and bought it on-line

The original OP asked if dealers use customers bikes. I know that they do. I took my GSA in for a service and was told it was needed to be kept overnight, turned up early next morning and saw one of the staff arriving for work on it. Soaking wet, as it had rained the night before. Last year I test rode a GS I was interested in, phoned later to put a deposit on it and was told it had been sold the day before and the buyer had paid in full.

How cheeky is that arriving for work on it, i would have been fuming with them. I can't believe BMW dealers would do that with customer bikes, i guess make a note of the mileage when dropping bikes off.

I bought a bike from them last year. I tried to arrange a collection/delivery but they were so uncommunicative I ended up riding from Surrey to Sunderland and back to pick it up. When I got there they couldn't have shown less interest (odd really as there were no other customers to distract them other than one person having their bike serviced). They also didn't tell the truth about the bike's service history (it hadn't been serviced for 2 years). The only time any of them did show an interest was when I was leaving and they thought I'd taken the V5 for the bike I was exchanging. 5 weeks later, having not had the V5 I rang the DVLA - they hadn't bothered to change the owner. Then more phone calls and emails to get them to do their job properly. Every time I rang them during the sale process I could never get hold of any salespeople, and they never responded to any emails. Utter shite service and lesson learned.

As said an unprofessional shower of sh*te, they did a similar thing when I bought a used r1150gs off them ............ love to know how a bike they serviced with a recorded oil and filter change had a siezed on bash plate, an oil filter with a sticker on from 2 years previous from M & S motorcycles and rear brake pads which shed their friction material (it fell off) after less than a week .
