I am considering, and only considering, swapping the 1150 in for a GSA or one of thos orange things.

Anyone got any views on such matters or been tempted (or even purchased) by the orange one?

Any views or criticisms would be appreciated.

Hey Ketchup, you've been keeping a low profile of late! I went into Fowlers t'other day and looked at one of those orange things, and even sat on it. Still got back on my Adventure though, no contest!!!:)

Steady Away bought one of those Orange things.. the fact that he hasnt commented speaks volumes;) :)

Look at the service intervals and costs.....you'll never consider it again.

There was a good write up on the 1200 forum the other day.......take a look there......and ADVrider is also a damn good place to take look at all info apertaining GS/Katoomer comparisons 'cos they cater for all sorts of odd machinery ;)

FWIW......If it weren't for the GS, I'd probably be riding orange rather than a hinckley pussy or warararardeeryo.

;)

Dave Windham of CW's has opened a orange dealership

Sideways Motorcycles
Hybris Business Park
Crossways
DT2 8BF (Nr Dorchester)

The Adventurer S is too tall for me
But now the lower version comes in orange and black now.
+ you can also get a rather nice low gel seat @ £85.

I don't do a lot of milage so servicing isn't a concern
but i hate chains.

I'll keep the old girl ;)

i,m keeping quiet about how good the orange crusher is i dont want you all jumping on the bandwaggon again.

I sat in on and went through a major service at a main dealer on one of those adventure thingies last thursday, two small twin tanks, at £500+ a side, what a palaver to do a valve check, ----
i won't be taking any work in for those bikes. God help you if you've got to run one --
:banghead: :nono

bunch of old stick in the muds

I tried both. I thought the 950S was very good. I didn´t buy one because I think FOR ME the 1150gsa is better.

I guess for me its like the trip I´ll do in a couple of weeks to the stella alpina. Maybe the KTM is better when I get there, especially off road, but I have to get there and back.

for me the balance of my use led me to the ADV.

Having said that I am not so sure I will be buying BMW again. Seems to me you have to buy to many extras to make these heaps "good".

I've just swapped my 1150GS after nearly 5 years for a 950 Adventure from Sideways Motorcycles. I'll let you know how I get on.

Fist impressions are: It is different to a GS, more trail bike than road bike in feel. Very light and easy to manoeuvre in traffic, 30+kg lighter and lower c of g. Pillion comfort not as good as GS. Suspension far better than GS with Ohlins. Screen better than std GS not as good as with Tobinators. Gearbox far better than GS. Carburettes better than GS with BBPower chip.

Hopefully it won't corrode as quick as a GS. Only time will tell on this one.

I don't know about depreciation yet either, but buying from Sideways I'll have the Legendary C.W. backup and should I ever come back to BMW C.W. will buy it back.

Will keep you all posted.

Have looked into the service costs and the first service (600 miles) is £300! Sideways are offering this for £199 at the moment but I think it will be like owning an Aprillia again!

I think I will stick to what I have for the moment (especially as CW's are still trying to sort out the problems I have with it without too much help from BWM) and go for the ADV next year. Saying that the Metal Man conversions do look a bit tempting ;)

What problem did you have with corrosion, I have a 3 year old 1150 with 42,700 miles on the clock. It's used all year round and so far I've had no problems at all, the finish is standing up to daily commuting very well.

I do try and wash it after every ride, just a quick hose down & good wash once a week but it seems to work.
