Do i need to go to dealers for servicing???

My decision was to keep it BMW offiicial servicing for the first 2 yrs and then after that find a decent independent. For the warranty it seemed the only option. I mean if you invalidate your warranty how much are you REALLY saving?? :nenau

Only prob after warranty period was finding a decent independent so int he end i ended up keepin git within the main delaer network :blast

Disagree. Park Lane wanted something like £475 to do the 6000 mile service on my bike. Sod that! It's not even a major service!!!

Wow - I just had my 6k service there and it was £250. Expensive, but about in line with what I see from others. Mine is a 1200 & I bought it from Park Lane....does that make a difference?

Not sold on the them though....may try Bahnstormer for the 12k.

I bought the bike off them too. I double checked both the price and the fact that it was a minor service. £475 sir. Sod that.

Legally they have to back up the warranty if you can prove it was a competent mechanic who did the work using OE parts. As that's a bit of a grey area you'd get into a bit of call tennis/abuse with BMW. If it was a BMW dealer there's no grey area to argue over.

I risked it and got steppers to do mine at a year old. Saved shiteloads and it didn't beak. Now it's out of warranty anyway. I know, 'what if'...I'm an argumentative twat.

On the positive side, it should stop any potential for argument if something major goes bang during the first two years. Whether that justifies the additionalcost is a risk-based decision only each person can take individually. As has been said, if it does go wrong and doesn't have dealer service stamps, you can probably expect a battle.

On the negative side, I feel much more confident in the quality of work of my local specialist than in some dealers I have used (which includes Battersea/Park Lane). I'm just out of 2-tr warranty period now, so I will continue to use local independent.

I noticed in one of the earlier responses the word Diagnostic being mentioned.

Well my local guys BMW trained X Lind of Norwich now have their own Diagnostic system setup .Apparently they can do your brakes which a lot of independants won't touch apart maybe from Steptoe along with other obvious diagnostic checks. He says he can even sort out ignition keys for Hondas with the HISS etc.
