After waiting since november 04 . And selling my 10 month old Honda transalp. My local dealer (Sawbridgeworth B.M.W) Have offerd me a blue -grey-black gs1200 rather than the yellow-grey-black i originally ordered.
Now the good bit. When i ordered the bike i said no heated grips
Oh thats a problem. That might delay the bike.So we compromised .The dealer went halves on the grips.
Now it seems if i want to stick to my original choice. There may be no yellow bikes untill August.
So take the blue one i hear you say.Oh there is an alarm on the blue one. That will be another £175.00.

So once again i must compromise on the colour. And i must pay extra for the pleasure

If you paid a deposit when you placed your order, they should have given you a piece of paper (new vehicle order) with the order spec and a rough date of delivery that states "Estimated delivery date" (that's what I got anyway).

The lower portion of the New Vehicle Order form is signed subject to certain provisions as an undertaking to meet the agreement.

Para 4 (of the conditions) states that if the Vendor fails to deliver within thirty days of the delivery date, you have the right to request delivery within seven days, if they cannot do so you can have your full deposit back.

Para 3 gives the Vendor some "get outs" if they cannot supply agreed extras but I can't find anything that covers the Vendor adding extras not ordered.

I'd go for the colour change and the extras you didn't order chucked in as goodwill because Para 6 (a) commits both parties to the "price of the vehicle (including where applicable accessories, road fund licence, delivery, car tax and VAT) CURRENT AT THE TIME of the order"

You agreed (albeit under pressure) to the heated grips but if the alarm isn't on the New Veh Order sheet, then you shouldn't have to pay for it!

I guess it depends on how much you want the bike as to whether you are prepared to walk away at this stage. My guess is that the dealer is banking on you being desparate for the bike and dangling an August delivery is calculated to get you to take this bike and pay for something you didn't order.

Why not ring around all the dealers to see if there are any on cancelled orders? I got mine in September within a week.

For what its worth Bristol Motorrad have two yellow in stock, think grey sides although thats a simple swap around. You could check spec on those, and then use that a leverage to get the blue for the original price (or buy one from Bristol)

Blue/grey/black sounds perfect to me.

Just curious, why no heated grips?

I'd phone round and see if I could get one in the spec and colour you want from another dealer. It sounds to me as though Sawbridgeworth are being a little difficult. There are quite a few new 1200s around at the moment, I think Wollastons had a blue/grey/black for sale last week.

Alarm

When ordering my Blue 1200GS from BVM I specifically declined the alarm.

Got a phone call from the dealer a week later saying that it had been ordered with an alarm by mistake......

We had a chat about it and they agreed to cover the cost.

Result! :D

I have to say that I although I live in Bristol, I was recommended to use BVM and cant fault their service. Also it's a nice little ride out rather than trudging into the centre of Bristol.

Get the dealer to throw in the alarm for free.

B.V.M.

I can only agree with Peten. The service I have had from Bvm in Stroud has been excellent ! if I were you I'd give them a try. Mike.

I ordered mine from Rydale and all they had was a 1200 with an alarm that, otherwise, matched the rest of my spec. I clearly stated I didn't want an alarm and they didn't charge me for it. No big negotiation, they came forward with the offer. They also did a pretty good deal on the total cost and p/x.

Dunno if this helps or not but some dealers are more willing than others.

Sawbridgeworth,being difficult.....

well what a surprise.
Get your deposit back and tell them to stuff the one in the shop,If they wanted to sell you the bike, why don't they just change the plastic.Tossers

Just for you...

I called into BVM this afternoon, and asked about getting a 1200GS,and the answer, well I've forgotten now,but there are shite loads of them about (325 in transport to UK dealers NOW) If you ring BVM and tell them you want a Yeller one,it will be there at the beginning of May.The only downer I can see is that you have to have heated grips and ABS.
Of you go then:beerjug:

got a result. Sawbridgeworth agreed to swallow the cost of Alarm and also agreed to pay half towards heated grips. But said that they do not transport other bikes in from other dealers. so as the Blue is not too bad a colour and not many around went for the Blue one.

I really didn't want the heated grips but they are already fitted on the bike even though you still have to pay for them separately

:) Finally got a result from Sawbridgeworth. (the wife helped) They have agreed to swallow the cost of the Alarm on the bike and also pay half towards the heated grips ( which i really didn't want). As there are not that many blue ones around and when the wife chirped up saying that i would miss out on summer riding after selling the transalp, and selling her bike as well for the BMW, decided i would go for the blue one. so i hope to take delivery next weekend.
But thanks for all the advice

And you can get the plastics sprayed for next to nothing so I also think you got a decent result in the end. And I think youll enjoy those grips, it wasnt that cold over the weekend and I still had mine on low. Just takes the edge off and you can wear thinner gloves all year.
