Heading to Morocco on Sunday - normally when heading to Europe I bring a lock and chain for the bike but because I'll be riding on pistes a lot I'm trying to keep weight down - what do you regulars do?
I see from ride reports that bikes are often brought inside the hotels.

I'd be inclined to save some weight and leave it at home - too much hassle for a long trip.

Hope you have a great trip Dave and looking forward to the report when you return.

if i can figure out my new camera hopefully you'll see some good pics

Hi Dave,
We're heading that way sunday, might see you on the ferry.
We're taking small locks for our trip, but we're not planning on doing a lot of off-piste, because of the luggage situation.
If our paths don't cross, have a good 'un

Not as much hassle as having your bike nicked.

I always take, and use, an Abus U lock.

So if anyone is going to nick a bike, they'll nick the bike thats been left unlocked = Yours.

In one!

Much like the average bike bay in London. There was a nice, red, 1200 GS with no lock, parked (I use the word loosely) in a nice dark alley beneath Cannon Street station last night. I was half tempted just to move it....

For a couple of quid I could have got a hand from the dossing tramps, too.

I wouldn't park my Busa beside a crappy GS anyway :P

.

Which fits nicely under the seat on your 1200 :thumb2 - I also carry a 1/2" thick braided steel cable with loops at each end, this way I can 'chain' the bike to a lamp post/tree/whatever. It coils up into my top box, is fairly light and takes up little room. It's also highly resistant to the type of bolt cutters that most tea leafs use for chains/padlocks.

I'm heading that way at the end of the month, Our tour organiser recommend's that either a disc lock or chain is carried even though the bikes will be kept over night in inner court yards, garages etc.

Also spoke to a guy from up your way who has been and he gave the same advice.

Hope you have a GREAT run :thumb2

Thanks - I reckon I'll take something anyway and have a bit more piece of mind!

Still warmer than here though :D

And the forecast says it's getting dryer :bounce1
Shame about next Thursday though :eek

Safe journey David :thumb2 I'll talk to you late next week ;)

Just back from 2 week trip, got sunburn on me baldy heed!!

Took chain and U lock but didn't need them cos there's always someone employed by the hotels to watch over the bikes, cracking weather and great roads. Have a good un!:thumb2
