Doc does Germany with our lass part ?

looks to be the pauper burger menu selection, not the 35 euro menu in the photo!

@Doc was the ketchup supplied or did you take your own?
It came with it.
Not sure about the pauper bit I think the burger was €27 euros 😅

Decided on visiting Poland today. Weather is too nice not to be riding the bike and our lass wasn't bothered about Berlin so might aswell seen as though we are so near.Screenshot_20260710_045146_Maps.jpg20260710_051810.jpg

Have you packed your picnic dinner lunch?
No should have done though. We will get something out and bugger the expenses 😅

And phew. Just come across the aftermath of a bad car crash down a country lane. Only one cop car there and ambulance and fire engine just turned up.
Knocked Jayne for six.

Caught up again. That looks a fabulous spot to stop, our kind of place, except for the fact it is in Germany. I am hoping Anna will be well enough to go away this autumn - Ghent and Brugges are where she wants to visit. I'm not sure she would go as far as Germany, besides which neither of us speak a word of German!

Blimey... 5 minutes earlier...... there but for the Grace of God etc. 🙏

Breakfast looks a decent buffet.

Colditz isn’t too far to the east, I really enjoyed the castle (but not the town)

Hopefully Jayne will settle with a bit of sun and nice roads

And in Poland. Straight through the border no checks nothing.

Many Germans nowadays especially the younger generation will speak a bit and generally they are helpful unlike the French..... :) :)
Ghent & Bruges....well I'd personally skip, especially Brugges which is tourist trap and to me not worth the effort espeically traffic etc.

Ghent and Bruges are easy to access via the Chunnel or the North Sea ports.

The immediate west of Germany (that closest to Holland and Belgium) is not so very far away either.

I speak no German, beyond counting to 12, ordering a beer (or up to 12 beers)
reading the basics of a menu, saying “Hello”, “Goodbye” and “Thank you”. Whilst the locals (beyond teenagers) speak less and less English, the further east in Germany you go, I managed to get by for three weeks, including the return of a jar of cherry jam which was mouldy on first opening. Mime and interpretive dance opened the door to them understanding the problem.

I take the view that most ‘service’ industries (shops, hotels, taxi, public transport and the like) are there to sell their wares and offerings. They usually get the gist of what the customer wants, as it suits them to do so. Likewise, the customer is pretty dumb, if he goes into a butcher or dentist’s surgery and tries to buy paint. Nobody needs to discuss advanced nuclear physics, not least as most of us have no need to discuss it at home… so why think you might across the Channel?

You don’t speak German, they possibly don’t speak much English (and indeed why should they) so you all start from a fairly level playing field. It’s part of the Adventure (with a capital A) of life….. or people would have never have gone to Japan or India in whenever year it was that they did venture over the horizon.

Plenty of nice places to visit Simon from Rotterdam in Germany.
Language no problem 😊
