The picture records when the dam was built.

It’s possible that in the period 1938-42, slave labour would have played a part.

And the Harz in general. The region has a quasi mystical significance for the Germans, along with the local witches:


If you fancy going back and seeing more, there’s plenty of stuff for motorcyclists and non-motorcyclists on the internet.

Definitely worth a revisit.
 
I've mentioned the dead larch wastelands that stretch for miles and miles which we saw when we went there a couple of years ago. Caused by an increase of just adegree or two in the mean temperature allowing a beetle population to explode which destroys the larch. But I'm sure it'll be all bollox cos I read it here. 🤗

We were wondering what had happened to them. We have seen loads in different areas we have visited.
