Doc Wongs bling!

He missed out Migsel's great looking and probably useful Oil cooler guard :thedummyOh Oh I can't believe it!

Val.

I suspect that the fault lies in your perception. I've never met Doc Wong but I have had a PM correspondence with him over on BARF and as I said, he's a friend of a friend.

I suspect your English values aren't really an adequate tool for making a personality assessment of a Californian, Chinese-American professional man.

I would completely agree, I am sure that it is my perception, and possibly my stereotyping, however it does not stop my comments being valid.
I did start off by saying I may be wrong and I may be, at no point have I said that he is an unpleasant individual, what I said is that he comes across as a knob, twonk what other word you want to use. And I stand by that.

I am sorry but you judge people by how they appear, he appears to be the sort of person that if I met in the pub I would pass by to talk to someone else. It may be just the way the video is shot in which case he should have got somebody to edit it before putting it on the net, and I am sorry but if you publish a body of work for other people to view then at the same time you allow others to pass a critique upon that body of work.
And the impression given of that individual in that particular video, to me with my preconceptions etc is of someone who is disingenuous and represents everything I dislike, about "motorcyclists" to use the word in its most derogatory form.

Now it is not jealousy, I have more than sufficient money to buy what ever I like.
Its not just to do with bikes either, its almost any subject, there are those who "get" into sailing and have to buy every "do Dah" and "ge gaw", you see the born again get fit types who have to have the most expensive kit etc etc, the diver that has to have the latest and greatest of everything has not got any idea what to do with it but there you go. They seem to get the impression that by spending that amount of money etc they automatically acquire a degree of credibility, where as in fact the opposite is true.

Now this particular video shows a man describing a bike he claims to know about, and the parts fitted to it, he cant remember where he bought the parts or who made some of them or what they are for, the impression is of one who has thrown money at the parts book with no regard to why or what for and that in my world equals a KNOB.

I also believe that I have some if little knowledge of the Californian, Chinese-American professional man, ok it was only for 6 months but I was employed as an engineering consultant in San Fernando Valley (LA) I got to meet some very well off very interesting people who rode bikes and I still keep in contact with them, I also met lots of the RUB types and didn't give them the time of day.

As I say that is the impression given, mine is just an opinion and you are free to ignore it, but it is still MY opinion.

I am sorry but you judge people by how they appear

You may judge people by how they appear.....and on the basis of so little information.

I'm still giving you the benefit of the doubt......:augie

I dont see how he is any different to most of the folk here. He has fitted unnecessary stuff as many here have done.

Maybe we need this video to show us what we look like to others.

Doc Wong

For all the cheap shots... fact is the bloke clearly loves his GS... (and lets be honest, there are worse things in life...). I save my 'TOOL' expression for the muppets out there that race down my street trying to show off and wheelie (with kids playing nearby) or generally give bikers a bad rep...:mcgun

Doc Wong is harmless and very proud of his GS... Fair play to the bloke.
:beerjug:

Yes I do, and EVERYONE if they are honest does the same, when you meet somebody for the first time most people form an opinion about someone in the first 60 seconds and rarely does that change, now I don't say that is right I say it because its a well established and accepted theory.

So yes on the basis of 2 or 3 minutes of video information, you get a good general impression of what sort of person somebody is, its no bigger a video file than most dating agencies use.
If you audition for something most decisions are made in the first 30 to 40 seconds. Most contestants on talent shows have less time than that to impress or otherwise. If you meet someone in a pub or at an event and strike up a conversation, subconsciously you will make a decision as to continue or not in the first moments of the meeting, in fact in most cases you will subconsciously judge by body language before you even exchange words is the conversation worth starting, and if not you will not take it any further, and you wont even know you have done it or why.

If that is, indeed, Harry Wong, he's anything but a tool...

Doesn't look like the same person to me :nenau
doc-main.jpg

Unless it's an old photo...

Also your Harry Wong does mention a few bikes but not a BMW and the youtube Doc Wong has posted lots of scuba stuff which Harry doesn't mention.

Methinks the two may not be one and the same.

I really liked the bit where he tried to stop himself calling the shocks "White Power" but kept forgetting :D :blast

This thread reminds me of my father-in-law.

He's from Bolton and absolutely HATES Peter Kay with a vengeance. The thing he can't or won't admit but that everyone else can see is that the reason for the hatred is that it's like looking in a mirror for him and he doesn't like what he sees, especially when everyone else (including his family) laughs at Peter Kay so much.

The man's got a bike :thumb and spare dosh. :thumb:thumb He can do what he likes with it, just like the rest of us.

I'm off to the pub. :thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb

Now play fair, no need to bring race into this. People are commenting based on their perception of his video and bike mods . . . . . . but he has emptied a whole accessories catalogue onto his bike and post video about it

Good reminder :thumb

Many of us would have thought "harmless prat", but would then also admit to having 1 or 2 wee mods on our bikes, but would never consider sharing them on the www. for all to see and chuckle at.

Bikes range from tricked up Wings to Rat bikes and I guess most Tossers on here lie somewhere in the middle. Some are hard core, high mileage, every day riders, while some of us get out less often for various reasons. Live and let live.

I hope that if anyone ever comments on my second hand, low mileage, slightly accessorised GS, then (a) I won't get upset about it and (b) they won't mind a bit of banter in return :)

Like all generalisations, this one's dangerous. I'm certainly not part of your EVERYONE group.

Carry on......:)

I watched the video and I found it a bit boring......

Not enough facts, he seems to skirt over the mods benefits and generalises more than some of the threads I've just been reading.....

What's he like as a person, I don't give a sh*t :nenau

:jibber

I thought he was ok in what he said and showed he seemed an alright sort of guy... i only thought he was a Twat as soon as he said "I'm Doctor Harry Wong"

Who gives a Feck what he is when he's talking about bikes

That's what i love about people on here they don't try to appear superior... loads of highly skilled accomplished and trained people on here and none feel the need to advertise it.... unless you need help in their area of expertise

i think there is something classy about that:thumb2

.. i only thought he was a Twat as soon as he said "I'm Doctor Harry Wong"

That is to be forgiven as almost everyone in Amercia who is a Doc, lawyer..etc would and will probably introduce themselves like that and why not...but it does sound a little bit like the guy in the simpsons Dr Nic the quack :D "Hi everybody i'm Dr Nic"...

Sorry why would anyone do that in normal conversation if they wern't Twats

Because they can and quite probably because they're proud of their accomplishments.

Also, Harry Wong is far more commonly known as Doc Wong and is well known as such for his Doc Wong's Riding Clinics which he offers free, gratis and for nowt to anyone who wants to attend.

Because it is the norm in America and does that make americans Twats:nenau:augie

It is similar to meeting an american and they tell you they are from Paris, Texas or London, Ohio they do it as standard so i would imagine 99% of Docs in amercia introduce themselves as Dr Yankie doodle dandy.....

Y'all have a nice evening now:thumb2
