Dodgy Neutral Light

Now I have got my hands on a nice GS1100, I took it for its first longish trip up the M40 today. A good time was had, but a piddling little irritation in the form of the neutral light coming on when I was in 1st or 2nd having stopped at the services...

It would go off when I shifted to 3rd, but any wisdom on what I can do to get the light to come on only when the transmission is in neutral?

Dodgy Neutral light

I Know this doesn't help but I am getting a similar problem with my 1200gs
usually when the bike is cold the bike thinks its in 2nd instead of neutral once
I finally get get the bike started and go up through the gear box it all goes back to normal.

so keen to find out if any one else has had similar and how to fix it?
