Not a GS, but my winter hack started running extremely roughly last night, under about half throttle it seems to cut onto one cylinder intermittently. I changed the plugs just incase it made a difference, but just the same.

Could it be a problem with the Throttle Position Sensor?

Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated. The bike is a 96 model R1100RT and it runs fine above half throttle opening, but cuts in and out below that (and sounds like a bucket of spanners on tickover).

Won't have much internet access now until Saturday night, so please forgive my rudeness if I don't respond to messages promptly.

All the best,
Keith.

Weird I know but that sounds like the dreaded right cable unseated?? i.e. crappy tickover and doesn't rev clean until over 2000rpm?

Did you have the tank or panels off it recently ??

Are both exhausts warming up or only one?

If it was an HT lead which do give bother on RT's then I would have suspected that at higher RPM where you say yours runs fine?

CAN'T find the cable not seated right picture thingy will try again later :aidan:aidan

Have you re-fuelled recently ?

My 1150GSA didn't want to start, initially, then started cutting out when leaving the NEC on Tuesday. On the M42 / M6 it was very rough and didn't want to tick over when the traffic stopped (so I filtered ).

I re-fuelled after 220 miles and all was sweet again - so I suspect dodgey fuel at one of the Motorway Services (no names in case I'm wrong).

Riding up the M6 I was going through all the technical faults I could think of. I was very relieved to find it running sweetly up Shap after a stop at Tebay.

Hopefully something as simple as that in your case.

Bob.

Feedback........................................

Finally got round to looking at this, and as suggested, it was the throttle cable! Not unseated, but had been bent at some point and had started to come unrolled (the outer) just above the adjuster.

Fitted new throttle cable and fast idle cable (they have both seen too many winters with minimal washing down) and after a bit of fiddling to balance the throttles the bike is now running sweetly again.

Thanks all for your advice. Just as an aside, I also had a plug snap off from the cable running to one of the injectors. It snapped too close to the plug to solder it back on and I couldn't source a new plug. I ended up popping to the local breakers where I found one fitted to a fuel injected car.

May just get someone out of trouble one day.

Ride safe,

Shad.
