dodgy usa mapsource from ebay

Bought a usa mapsource disk for a tenner, hoping at best to sit on the computer and plan my routes, hotels etc for usa trip in june, however the disc is working better than i thought it would as I have been able to plan routes and measure distances etc and send usa routes and waypoints to the garmin 2610.

My question is do you think the garmin will work in the usa and follow preplanned routes and waypoints

If all you have done is download routes, waypoints and POIs, without a mapset, then the answer must be no.

You need to be able to download mapsets - ie.......... block off areas on Mapsource and send to the 2610.

Looks like it maybe no good. I can download mapsets, routes and waypoints but it wont display detail. I presume I wont be able to use it then

sorry, just to say that on the computer screen , it displays fine detail, but not on transfer to the GPS

After downloading mapsets - can you zoom out on the 2610 so that you can see the mapblocks on that screen? They appear as grey/silver borders.

On you PC - block only one map section and send that to the 2610............ see if it shows up on the 2610 screen?

Sounds like the maps ain't going, to be honest

You haven't said which mapping software it is that you've bought. "Mapsource" is just the name of program which Garmin use to display and manage the map sets. The maps which you have are likely to be City Navigator which should require an unlock code, City Select or perhaps even Roads & Recreation. A bit more information about which maps you have might enable us to help you progress things.

Its a metroguide north america v7. I emailed the bloke I originally bought the disc off on ebay for tips, he said he will send out another disk for free will let you know how this works out.

metroguide should work ok, albeit with some lack of detailed guidance compared with city navigator, but you'll need metrowizzz to allow it to route on your gps.

if you are prepared to use "dodgy" software, why pay for a dodgy metroguide? various versions of city navigator are available free on the interweb.

Like I said at the beginning of the thread, I initially bought the dodgy disk to sit and work out routes for usa trip, it would be a bonus if it worked in the garmin 2610.
Being honest, I begrudge paying 115 pound for the usa metroguide for a two week trip ( I have however got the genuine europe v9 which has and will get regularly used)
If no joy, will probably buy a good usa map
