Does anyone have a truly waterproof jacket? BMW aint!!

Teknic Freeway Day-Glo. A lower budget jacket to the HG Goretex but quite simply amazing in all respects. Do a google search for it and read the reviews and only £215 or there or there abouts on fleabay.:thumb2

Hi everyone, the bmw suit they had was the one with the chequers on it, rallye? Not the streetgaurds. I have the master suit, and yes its been great but change is a good thing sometimes, just fancy something different, wondered what was out there.
Sorry for posting in the wrong place, was late when posted!
So thanks everyone for your posts, interesting that there seems so many choices, all the best.:clap

HG Master V suit - never leaked and been through some real downpours - Goretex is on the outside so doesn't soak it up either

+ 1 ... you do not know the definition of RAINFALL until you experience Hong Kong summers - torrential downpours that make anything you see on the Discovery Channel seem like a spring shower in comparison! Seriously, the heaviest rain that I have experienced in any country.

Not a drop through the HG stuff - gloves and boots, too ... more than can be said for the rain that comes up and into the Arai Tour X helmet ...

Fieldsheer XP lined & armoured jacket, bought for £35 from the Manchester motorcycle show in January. I rode back from Stranraer from the NW200 in the worst conditions i've ridden in for a long while, and was completely dry from the waist up. :thumb2

The Hein Gerricke lined overtrousers failed around Carlisle, making the rest of the ride in increasingly bad weather to Manchester rather unpleasant. :(

Yea, conditions were bad, I came home on Sunday in same weather! Worse than the atrocious weather was the standard of riding, would not have believed it if had not seen it with my own eyes!!

I was third last off the boat, must have overtaken 450 bikes by Dumfries, all creepin along at 45, nose to tail, all rigid when coming to a corner, lines were rubbish, like lemmings they were!!
I was not going daft either, was riding to the conditions, but felt like Rossi!!

I got to Norwich 9.30pm, bit wet through my zip but trousers good, sidi rains perfect. Cheers

You've obviously never been to Scotland in Spring

Hi, I have had a hein Gericke suit now for 7 years, want to replace it, but what with? Two mates have bought the BMW suit and troos and both leak like a leaky thing, on way to europe last year, mate was soaked in an hour, last week coming back from North West 200, other mate was soaked in less, had to borrow a nylon oversuit to keep dry. Is this the norm??
So, anyone got a BMW suit that keeps you dry?
Anyone tried the Alpinestars touring suit, new out.
Or do i stay with Hein Gericke?
Cheers me dears, ta.

My Hein Gerike cruise 2 totally waterproof never ever had a leak or mild dampness well worth the money

BTW Hein Gericke have a 25% sale on at the moment, finishes Tuesday. I'm off to get an HG Journey tomorrow :)

Stadler (Gore-Tex), but even more expensive than BMW and Rukka, but you get 10 years warranty.

I suspect that they produce for BMW, as the Gore-Tex lining in my jacket is the same as in BMW's Rallye 2 Pro.....

I use Rukka but any gore-tex triple laminate jacket will keep you bone dry.

Basically a triple lam has the gore-tex laminated between the outer material and an inner layer of the jacket meaning the outer repels water, unlike most jackets costing anything up to about £450, that either have a removable liner or have the gore-tex suspended between the outer and the liner of the jacket, and the outer just soaks up the water, causing one to freeze or finding it's way through.

But unfortunately triple lam comes at a cost, I think the HG master V jacket is triple lam and is about £500 but anything else Rukka for example is the best part of £1000.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insights here. The triple laminate Gore-Tex set-up is new to me but that must partly explain why the more expensive Gore-tex suits don't appear to leak.

My BMW Rallye II leaks like a sieve. Used one on my RTW and no matter what I did to the outer shell and re-proofing of the Gore-Tex liner it always leaked in anything less than a brief shower. And that went for three of us using them. :eek

Absolute rubbish in the wet and they're obviously not cheap.

Most (if not all) BMW suits are made with a gore-tex liner. This waterproof.(full stop) If it leaks BMW must sort you out under there manufacting agreement with W.L. Gore. Simple as that.
I have Rukka Steel jacket. It is waterproof but if i know I'll be riding in the rain for a few hours i throw overtop of the rukka a lightweight hiking jacket. it stops the rukka driping allover the hotle floor and it's ALOT warmer

Hi Steve,

I'm afraid it wasn't as black and white as that. We did return one of the suits and got a replacement liner which.....also leaked. :blast In the end we chose the practicality/ruggedness of the suit over its waterproofing, something we regretted not long into our journey. Whilst you say it is waterproof. (Full Stop), ours never were and we know we are not alone with this being a problem with the Rallye II's specifically. It does seem that the Gore-Tex, or the way BMW use the Gore-tex in some of their other suits does work.

As an aside I've just returned a nearly new pair of Merrell Gore-tex walking boots and a Berghaus Gore-tex walking jacket because they both leaked too.

At the end of the day I do think there are grades or ways of using Gore-tex which make it work or fail. I've had just so many bad experiences of it failing now BUT I do have friends with expensive Gore-tex products which work very well. :nenau

Regards,

Sgt.

I think the BM Streetguard is of the laminated variety which is probably why it works.

Aerostich Darien, they say it'll outperform anything you're currently wearing and after almost four years of using one, I believe them. Besides,Ted Simons wore one on his Jupiter revisited tour and if it's good enough for him...:clap
