Hi All, I think I know the answer but I’ll ask anyway :)

I’m about to spend the money and get the 911 WiFi for my 2010 GSA

The round 10 pin connector is in the bike so should I get the 911 with the round connector or with the rectangle connector and adapter cable. ? As I said I guess it doesn’t really matter ?

Only thing I can think of is if I ever change the bike I would need the rectangle one. No idea

As always thanks for any info.

Yeah good point. I was gearing towards that way. I already have the cable for some reason

I know they are pricey and I looked at the Motorscan App option etc but I think this way will be the way ahead.

Thanks

The problem with Motoscan (i have it, too) is you need phone signal so it can verify your account. The issue being if on the road and out of signal/no data signal it won't work.

The GS-911 on wifi mode/diagnostics to your phone does not need (as far as i know) a data signal/stream to work.

You connect to the GS911 WiFi in “Infrastructure Mode” where the GS911 acts as a kind of WiFi hub (access point) between itself and your phone rather than needing a WiFi network to join.

Never used it on my 2016,

When i got my 2011 i had the option

Oblong with adapter cable

Round without

I bought the round with the adaptor cable

You can buy an an adapter cable to go both ways

TBH it makes no difference

The later software is the same whatever the unit

Hi All

Just to clarify some things:
* Infrastructure mode is the one where you need to connect to a network with internet. D2D (device-to-device) mode is the one for emergencies.
* Yes, you don't need cell service to connect via D2D, as this is purely to get you up and running when out and about. This mode will not allow service functions, as that is considered something to do in the garage. Diagnostics like autoscans and read/clear fault codes are available to identify and clear faults causing issues on the bike.
* Both devices share the same firmware version, so there isn't any difference outside of the hardware component. Considering that bikes moving forward will use OBD-II until BMW decides to change that again, I would also recommend going with the OBD-II GS-911 and the female adaptor.

Kind regards and safe travels

My mistake, I thought it was the other way around.

(I recall faffing with a button to change an LED so the thing would talk to my iphone instead of annoyingly picking up my wireless network from the driveway.)
