Anyone done the before and after? Does it make a difference or a should I just continue vinyl taping up the stand?

To be honest the vinyl taping works really well and renewed every couple of years, but it looks like a meteor shower has hit it.

Motorrad fit them standard now - so easy to source at your local dealer. Years ago BMW denied there was any issue despite being inundated by complaints - so the fact they now fit them standard should tell you enough 🤔
The damage appears to come from rocks thrown up from the back wheel. I took mine off 2 years ago and got it powder coated. I also put heli tape on the centre bar before installing that plastic cover. It seems to be holding up, but haven’t taken off to fully investigate as it’s a fucker to put back on!! lol

I purchased one from a BMW dealer last month. It was around £55.
You also need 4 cable ties and 4 small strips of sticky back foam. Best to supply those bits yourself.

Wonder if Ali Express sell them?!

Does its job. However. Gets very dirty very easily if riding on dirty roads. It’s not the easiest to clean. But I guess it does keep the underside of the exhaust a bit cleaner.

Always used them on 1100/1150’s

Centre stand is perfect even after many miles

On RT’s you can use ribbed circular plastic electrical conduit which is perfect for the middle bar

I find they do work. The worst affected areas seems to be the stand lugs and centre bar. The protector is designed to deflect the stones from the front wheel. Mine have been on a few years now and have quite a lot of gravel rash that otherwise would had most of the paint off by now.
As usual I recall the fastening rubbers were extra and a piss take, don't bother and get some far cheaper ones off Ebay.

Always riding by your house Nick. Never see you outside cleaning your bike :ROFLMAO:

Just about to order a few things from Ali express. Happy to add a guard to my order if you want to try one.

The Aliexpress versions are sold on eBay by uk sellers. I paid about £16 for mine a year or so ago and from memory complete with cable ties.

Apparently some dealers have fired them wrong and they’ve melted!

Not sure if it’s the same as the photo above, but a few have reported it
